The first rifle I am using to shoot the Arsenal 30HVTH 170 gr Sliver in the thread in "Molds, Design and Maintenance" section was an orphan on Gunbroker for several weeks over a year ago. At that time it was carrying a Simmons 4.5 - 14 ATV scope that proved to have a Parallax problem.

Well all orphans deserve a chance and quality home so off went $300.00 and this 1923 Polish W98, with a 24" 7.62 barrel had new home. (Barrel is marked 7.62, only marking on barrel) I harvested a couple deer with it last fall using a NOE 311-155 FN. ( FN not RFN as I mistakenly used in thread title, My bad. )sized and lubed in a .312 die with simple lube. The powder charge was 24.5 gr of either 4198 or Re7,(Buck was RE7 and a Doe got 4198ed) Cronnied 1990 with the NOE and an older lot of IMR 4198. This little buck was DRT 120 yards, quartering away, Boolit entered right behind last rib right hand side and went forward most likely into spine in neck. This photo was taken right were it fell.

I also harvested a nice adult doe with same load and actually from the same cartridge ( yes, it was reloaded to harvest the little buck). Passed threw the ribs removing the side of the heart and the deer did a circle run of about 30 yards. Simple lube was used and boolitz were sized .312. The boolitz were cast of my range scrap alloy with added tin AC to a hardness of 13.5.

Long live the cast Boolit,

fixed the title for Ya.

nice to see my simple lube is working for all kinds of things.
having the confidence to make a 125 yd cold barrel shot means something.

good find on that rifle 300 bucks is reasonable for a nicely stocked and new barreled rifle.
I like finding these old guy's.
they are priced about the same as the new BUDGET rifles, but they have a class and grace the plastic wobbly rifles don't.

R5R, Thank you for all the above in your post. Yes it was a bargain, most likely the Simmons scope is why I was the only bidder.

Congrats on two deer with your "new to you" .308. Pretty impressive boolit performance on both of them too.

Nice going there. I have a similar mold, the Harris 155gr from NOE. Maybe I'll get a chance to put it to use the way you have someday.

2wheelDuke,

I had the use of the NOE 311-155 FN while working with a friends 300BO. Mold and rifle were not mine, I was asked to see if I could get the AR running with it. I was able to after opening up the M4 feed ramps to except the wide rounded nose of this boolit. While I had the mold and it was hot I ran it some to get a stockpile of 25 pounds of the boolitz for my shooting pleasure.

IMHO, I would pick the NOE Harris design, or the XCB from NOE or the 30 HVTH mold from Arsenal ( slightly heavier @ 170) over the 311-155 FN for this weight of boolit. That is because of the diameter of the base of the grease grove on the NOE 311-155 FN. I have always felt the 311-155 FN had an excessively deep/large grease groove that may weaken the shank of the boolit. Then In the next breath I will say that the 311-155 FN has always shot very good and both of the deer harvested were as dead as dead can be. The 311-155 takes lots of lube to fill that groove, I believe with today's many choices of quality lube, IMHO less is better.

My experience with R5R's simple lube has proven that the first shot from clean or fouled barrel is always center of group.

nice deer!!!!

must have forgetin' the kevlar vest. everybody knows that a 308 with a 155gr boolit goes at least 2900fps[smilie=l:.

i use a 165gr ranch dog in my 30-40 krag that goes about 1800fps, i shot a doe at 93 yards(laser range finder) and she went straight down(no kevlar vest either:-P!!!).

good job on those 2 deer!!!

Nice deer & rifle Ken. I'll be giving the NOE 165gr a try this fall with my 30-30.
Thanks again for sharing.

Thank You Huntsman, If the NOE 165 is the RD design, I believe it will be a great match up with your 30-30. I actually have harvested a pair of deer (2) with the Plain Base RD boolit from the back door of my house. with the PB version I used 15 gr of 4759 for 1500 FPS from my Stevens 325C. Supper accurate in the 325 but just didn't feed from the Magazine of my rifle well with that big Meplat.
