Trying To Come Up With Some Loads For Shooting Steel I Am Using A Win With A 20 Inch Barrel. Any Help Out There? I Have A 145 Gr Rcbs Mold

I've been shooting the 135 Lee "soup can in MY 14" contender. 730 and h322 work well in my gun. Heavier bullets do not seem to work as well for me.

I have a 10" 7R which is almost the same. I was shooting steel with the 154 gr Hornady and found 18 gr's of SR4759 is super accurate and powerful. Might work well in the longer barrel too.

What velocity do you require? I have found the Waters to be a bit challenging to get shooting with cast.

My intent was to get the about 137 (with gascheck and lube) grain group buy Lee "Soupcan" (it's not really true to the soupcan premise; the bullet is rather long for the caliber, unlike the .30 version) to shoot well at around 2200 fps with wheelweight alloy to more or less duplicate the .25-35 for deer hunting.

Accuracy is good enough for 100 yard deer shooting but I'd really like better.

1800 fps and below is far easier in obtaining accuracy.

GT, goto my thread http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=23744 and see what I've come up with. Scroll down to the pics. Weather has prevented me from testing at longer ranges or chronographing, but it looks promising and I will post results when I have them. Good luck.

I used to use 22 gr. 4198 and a Saeco 071 which ended up at about 150 gr. in my 7-30 14" Contender. Shot some 40's with that combo!

There is reloading data for a Contender with some cast loads here: 7-30 Waters Reloading (http://tcbunch.com/home/index.php5?title=7-30_Waters_Reloading).
