I use 50/50 bees wax and Crisco. Works good all year for me.

I use 50/50 bees wax and Crisco.

Along with the 50/50, I keep a tube of T/C wonder lube in my shooting box.

When I lived in SW Ohio I used Crisco, it was messy. Now in SW Florida I use 50/50 lard/beeswax.

Remember unsalted Crisco only, 50-50 beeswax & olive oil what I use. Happy Trails.

Thanks, looks like beeswax will be on my list of purchases soon, I used straight crisco and, yeah, a bit messy, but not bad. However as the temps rise here in NW Florida I can tell it'll be a problem, the wax will probably stiffen things up a bit. I appreciate the comments! Thanks

don't know why people fret so about the bit of salt that might be present in lard or shortenin'. obviously you wouldn't want to rub yer gun down with anything containin' salt after cleanin' or before storin' it away but, even a pretty high salt content would cause no extra problems while shootin' & the miniscule amount that might be present in yer Crisco would have no effect whatsoever. you are goin' to clean it after you shoot it aren't you?

my opinion & yer welcome to it.

The main ingredient in black powder is a salt, and sulfur can produce acidic conditions under certain circumstances. Definitely need to clean after shooting.
