Good afternoon Gents,

I picked up a Swiss 1911 a couple days ago and am frankly in love with the craftsmanship/feel of the rifle. It is a real beauty as far as I am concerned. I also have a K31, but by far prefer the feel of the 1911. Up to this point I have only shot GP11 ammunition in the K31 and am looking into casting for the 1911 primarily at this point. I know there is concern about bullet length with these rifles and thought I would list my molds and see what you fellers' think is a good starting point. I should mention I have been casting for rifle a few years so I am not new to this, but rather just looking to lean on some 1911 experience. Powder success suggestions welcome as well.

Have most of the Lee 30 cal molds as well in Florida and could have one shipped up.

Thanks for any and all help/advice in advance.

Hard to go wrong with a 311284. Try sizing 0.309-311. The 1911's throats are said to be more cast friendly. On my K31 that bullet is way down past the neck. Try some dummy rounds until you find an OAL that works. You may need to drift the front sight toward the muzzle (moving the post to the right and the shots to the left) to and the rear sight up to compensate for the lower velocity of cast. My go to is always 16-18 gr Alliant 2400. IMR SR 4759 is also nice in the 20 grain area but I believe it is discontinued and may not be easy to find.

Lee 309-200R sized to .310 works quite nicely in my G96/11...actually prints better groups than my K-31 with the same boolit. So far as powder; either H4895 or AA2015 and I use a Dacron filler with both.
