Here are some pics of the expander/primer remover from a Bair die. It appears to be all one piece, machined in one. The expander collar is obviously different.

Is there any way to straighten a bent threaded rod without ruining it??162722162723162724

Looks like more than one bend in that rod. I might slip a piece of steel tubing over the threaded part with the expander held in a vise. You'll have good leverage and won't damage the thread, but it might never be perfectly straight again. Looks like a simple part, there has to be someone here with enough time to make a new one for you.

Double nut it by jamming two nuts together on the shank and grip the nuts to bend it back.

Protect the thread with a brass nuts or rod drilled and tapped to thread. yopu will also need matching with no threads to equally support other end unless its thread the full length. then find high spot in a vee block and lightly press to straight. hould be quick and somewhat easy to do. you may need to bend past a small amount due to spring back

It does have at least two bends in it. Right now the bend is severe enough I can't get the expander off, and I don't think it's threaded!

For what the cost is for the problem buy a new die.

I would agree but it is a Bair.

Chuck it in a lathe and tap it back with plastic hammer using a dial indicator

Remake all the crooked pieces and make them larger in diameter. Then it will be better than new.

If I had a lathe... I'd cut it off at the boss, drill and thread and screw in a piece of an RCBS decap die.

Drop it in the mail I will cut it off and thread it any size you want FREE

I have been thinking about buying one just to provide die making, rework and repair services.

I think one of the old RCBS bushings is the same size as the Bair top thread. Install the RCBS bushing and the rest of the parts until you get your bent pieces
replaced.

Thanks, EDG. I have several ways to load .38 Special, this isn't my only choice. I'm taking Dave up on his offer.
