Hmmm.....Ok! I've been filing down the front sight of my .54 Hawken and I shot these seven rounds with it day before yesterday. Two at top were with 100 grs. KIK 2F and the other five were with 90 grs. Ten ring measures two inches on this target which I staple onto a flat piece of cardboard. First shot with the 100 grs. took out the top staple but the target stayed on. Next shot of same load by the first. This was with a 6 o/clock hold and distance was 60 yards. Now I'm wondering if I need to file down the sight some more to being pretty well on at 100 yards using a 6 o/clock or a Navy hold! Maybe I'll find out tomorrow!

as the 100gr loads are in the top of the bull at 60yds, at another 40yds it looks to me like they'd probably drop right in the 10 ring the way things are now. I think I would try it before doin' any more filin' anyway.

Or you could throw away the file and hit the grinder....that would give us something to talk about [smilie=l:

I've got a tat more filing to do on the front sight! At 100 yards using a 6 o/clock hold I'm about 4" low so tomorrow....I'll file and reshoot! This was using 100 grs. KIK 2F. I'll see where taking off .030 gets me! Should be close!

Did I ever tell you fella's about the nice pillow I made out of humming bird feathers? I had to shoot them all on "the fly" as they went by.

Used my .22 Ruger Mark III pistol. Took a bunch of them birds to fill that pillow case!:bigsmyl2:

Didn't you wait until you had two lined up? Seems like a shameful waste of ammo to me!

And I learned something this afternoon that put a grin on my kisser and that is the fact that this .54 Hawken with 34" barrel shoots a lot flatter than I was expecting! I took it to the 200 yard line and found out just how to hold to get POI toward center. The AR500 plate you're looking at below is 28" depth and about same width. I fired 3 shots initially....no hits! I suspected that I was holding too high so using the same placement of the front sight into the rear notch that I use at 100 yards I held the top of the front sight at the upper right hand corner of this plate and got the 3 hits you can see! The wind was blowing around 5 mph from 4 o/clock so that required the hold off I used! Drift wasn't as much as I expected either! This was using .530 Hornady roundball and 100 grs. KIK 2F powder. Didn't fire any more as I was losing light but I left the range with a grin on my face! :bigsmyl2::holysheep

I would be interested in some drawings/plans for that shooting bench or just more pictures. I have built several wood, portable, tow behind benches, they get loose and tend to burn when there are wild grass fires. Is it road towable?
