I can't say anything about the Savage 111. I have never owned or handled one. One thing I can say is that 300 wm brass is way easier to come by than 300 wsm brass.

Personally I bought a 300 wm a few years back for that one day elk or big game hunt. Looking back on it I should of just bought a 3006. I have a buddy who has a 300 wsm and brass is hard to find and when we do come across some it is expensive.

Maybe someone can chime in one a value for you. I know most of the lgs around here are using gunbroker to price out used guns, I am not a fan of that it is like advertising " sold on ebay for " if you know what I mean.

Hopefully some others will chime in shortly to help you out more

The 300 Winchester mag is my favorite cartridge and I love to shoot it , but when I walk out to go hunting I pick up my 3006 as well . I have shot a lot of powder out of the 300 , but have shot a lot of game with the 3006 . Value is a funny thing when you want something . While taking of value consider 70 - 80 gr powder charge . The first 300 I purchased was from a fellow with a big cut over his eye .

Brass is available, the cartridge and gun are sound. I would stay away from anything that has short in it's name as a cartridge if you want long term brass solution. I have owned 2 300's and currently have an Encore bbl. No need to shoot it a lot but it will reach out and touch things. I have never needed to work up a cast load, with 180 gr jacketed it is hard to find a recipe that doesn't work.

The 300 Win Mag is my favorite big game caliber. I have harvested plenty of animals with it Elk & Deer etc, and never lost any. Mine is a Ruger 77 though, I don't have any experience with the Savage 111, but have a 110V in 22-250 and it is a tack driver. 300 Win Mag brass seems to always be readily available. It's a flat shooting son of a gun. And as a bonus, mine shoots cast boolits quite well.

I have a savage model 11 in 308 win shoots good enough. I have found the outside of barrel will rust real easy. I may not be treating my firearm correct; get out before sunrise sit till 10 or 11 then go back out from 2 to till sunset put the rifle behind the seat in my truck after 3 days of this the barrels shows signs of light rust.

I was at Cabelas yesterday and seen 111s on sale for just over 500 bucks topped with a Nikon Prostaff (~$180 scope) adjustable trigger, different stock..I think that is what they are called Savage 111.
I think a 300 Mag would be a good one for stopping game in their tracks, great cartridge for hunting next to private land, when you can't or don't want your game to run far.

It will also loosen your teeth each time you pull the trigger, it rumbles the soul with each shot

My friend has a 111 with the nikon scope and his barrel started to rust on the outside as well. Its very light so in a 300 win mag its going to kick A LOT! His is in 25-06 and it kicks pretty decent.

I have a savage 111 but it is in 338 wm. I love it. Dropped a large doe with it this year at 350 yards. Recoil isn't that bad but I am a recoil junkie so take that for what it's worth. Of all my savage rifles (~6 bolt actions) none was very hard to find a load that would shoot at least 1" or less at 100 yards.

I have never seen a Savage rifle based on the Model 110 action that did not shoot well. I don't care for the newer Accu-trigger, but the rifles shoot.

The .300 WinMag is a decent round. Brass or ammo can usually be found if you search hard enough. It isn't like a varmint gun where you need 17 gazillion pieces of brass.

I personally don't like the .300, every one of them I have shot seems to kick more than it needs to, while the exact same model in .338 Win Mag is comfortable to me. Makes no sense, but that is my perception.

Myself, if I feel I need more power than a .30-06, I prefer to go up in caliber not just case size.
