I've bought power pistol to replace unique for now (and hoping its a little cleaner) as Unique is hard to get. I have 200gr up to 280 gr cast .45 boolits for either, but am probably in the 240-280gr for the .45 colt and 200-240 for the auto rim. What all do you guys use?

Is Power Pistol easier to get than Unique? I've seen Unique on the shelves, and been told that PP hasn't been seen for a while.

Burns a lot cleaner in the .45ACP/Auto Rim (IMHO). I run 6.0g PP with my 240g and 255g loads, not a heavy recoil and very accurate.

With heavy bullets I find Unique to be more than adequately clean. That said, try about 6.5 grains PP with a 255 grain SWC in a decently strong pistol. Downside is noticeably more blast than Unique, which is why I prefer Unique for this use.

6.2 grains of Power Pistol under a 230 grain RCBS Cowboy boolit works pretty well for me in 45 Auto Rim for use in my cut Mark 6 W&S.

the boolits depicted are not the ones recommended but represent some earlier efforts.

Ive not used PP is 45 colt or autorim, I have been using it in higher powered stuff, like 45 super I use in my black hawk.

Thanks guys, I had figured that with a slower burning rate but very similar to Unique I'd start at the midrange Unique loads and work up - looks like that's about where you guys are.
JHeath - most of the pistol powders (bullseye, unique, 231, ect) are extinct here colorado. I haven't tried ordering them. I also want to try some other powders, red dot and 231 are on my list.

I had just posted some data that might address what you are asking. Go back to tab 3 under Wheelguns, Pistols and Handcannons, click on my thread entitled "Just added another Colt's pistol to the herd and click on the 2nd tab. I have been working with a new 270 gr mould and testing it with various powders.
