OK, please don't laugh at me,
1st I'm on a mac so i can't use the calculator you folks have here,
2d I mix lead for my 45-70 BP at 20-1
i do it in 10 pound pours and have the melted lead ingots (not wheel weight) and tin ingots all poured to there respective mix sizes,
im wanting to cast for 38/357 to use in my ruler security six,
can someone tell me
with 10 pounds of lead, how many ounces of tin to get my mix where it needs to be ?
also to keep it separate, i have some wheel weight so that also please
# 2 alloy and linotype
thank you
I'm old and i go crazy with the % mix so please be kind to me
and do it in the ounces
Don't know the weight but I put 2 yards of lead free solder off the spool in my Lee 10lb pot .as you can tell I'm not very scientific .

1/2 pound of Sn (tin) to 10 pounds of pure lead is 20:1. You can't make Lyman #2 or linotype without additional antimony. Clip on wheelweights only contain 1% to 2% antimony. Lyman #2 has 5% antimony, and linotype has 12% antimony.

OK so i need to buy some antimony (rotometals?)
so to make a 10 pound pot,
whats the mix of the three by ounces to get where i need
thank you

Lyman #2: 8 ounces of tin, 8 ounces of antimony, 9 pounds of lead.
Linotype: 6.4 ounces of tin, 19.2 ounces of antimony, 134.4 ounces of lead.

You've all probably already seen this, but I'll post this anyway. An easy trick to turn percentages into weights is to multiply the percent by the total weight and divide by 100.
Examlpe: Hardball is 2/6/92 Tin/Antimony/Lead. To make 10 pounds use:
2x10÷100= .2 pounds Tin
6x10÷100= .6 pounds Antimony
92x10÷100= 9.2 pounds Lead

Been doing that for years, scientific enough for me.

Open Office Calc will work on a Mac and should be able to use the alloy calculator from this site. Since Open Office is a free open source software it would be pretty easy to try it.
