I ran into this nifty little rifle & I ended up buying it! It has a Malcolm Leatherwood period scope on it & the bore is bright with no pitting & solid rifling! The trigger is a crisp 2.5 lbs with no creep & I'm taking it out tomorrow to see how she shoots! I got it for the coolness factor & am going to put it in my display case!

What do you think about this idea: slip a bit of cardboard tube over the muzzle end of the scope to try to keep muzzle blast crud from the front lens.

Since the front lens isn't at the end of the scope tube on that Leatherwood Malcolm scope, it's not an issue of getting crud on the lens. From the brass section on it's just an extension blank tube. For a proper look, I'd remove the extension, and cut it down so it ended at the end of the barrel, and not extend out past.
This is an original Stevens scope on my Ballard. But it shows how the scope should be positioned and end at the muzzle.

I love Rolling Blocks, and the #2 is probably the nicest shaped gun of all the Rolling Blocks! I have a #2 in .32-20 also, and if yours shoots well it would be a shame to not shoot it often! Mine is very accurate, and a joy to shoot!

Screw the display case! That thing has "crazy-fun shooter" written all over it! Order up a thousand Starline hulls and get to work!

marlinman - I see you tapped the tang and but an after market vernier on the rifle. Mine has no tap holes ergo no vernier to keep it 100% original

Just got back from shooting it. It is fun to shoot! I have two lever 32-20's so I keep myself in ammo! The scope was off from transporting, so I have to do some reading to figure out how to adjust it! I'm going to stick to lighter loads that I pjut together for my 1873.

Nope. The tang on mine was factory D&T, so I simply put an aftermarket long range vernier on it. She hits out to 400 yds. consistently, and hopefully farther if I can work up the right load. I've got several others in #1 and #1 1/2 that aren't D&T, so I don't have tang sights on them. But I may go ahead and D&T them, if I can do them exactly the same as factory. Just don't have any exact measurements. I have pictures in Marcot's book, but not sure if I can scale from them.

That is sweet - congrats! I have three #2s, one of which is a 32-20 with a nice period tang sight. Mine is a joy to shoot, I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

Clum, nice gun and scope. You already shoot the 32-20 so you know that that little RB is strong enough to handle some good loads. I'm envious. If that scope has the Leatherwood mounts, they take a little getting used to. It is fixed at the front so when you do windage with the rear mount you go in the opposite direction that you would think. In other words to move the impact to the right, move the scope rear to the left. Use the opposing screws and you will normally find them coarse and prone not to hold tight so I used some Teflon tape around the screws to get them to hold. Use a Sharpie to color the tape. If you want a better way to keep track of the settings Leatherwood sells an easy to install elevation accessory that I got and it makes it more repeatable though not as precise as todays sighting instruments. I have a Stevens 44 in 38-55 in almost mint condition and it has the Leatherwood 6x on it. Small tube takes some getting used to but is sharp and clear.
Enjoy

MarlinMan93, I love that Stevens scope. I have a Stevens 44 in 38-55 in almost mint condition with a Leatherwood 6x but it would be super to have a Stevens on it. If you ever, ever, ever get rid of it, let me know. Some really nice shootin irons.
Enjoy

Ahh, my favorite rolling block. Small, light and accurate! Shoot that thing and shoot it often.
Here's my 25-20 SS last October before I installed a tang sight.

Thanks! I love all the old scopes, but the longer tubes really are my favorites!

I have a #2 in 22LR that is in rough shape, might just make a 32-20 out of it being I have a barrel on the shelf.

That's it. As with 50target I can no longer peruse this thread but not because of my health. The last picture of the Ballard did it. If I look at it again it is going to cost me a lot of money due to the sins of covetousness and envy....

Stunning rifle marlin, absolutely stunning.

I love the browned finish John Unertl used on his early scopes. I understand why he went to blued, as it is less expensive, but not as pretty to my eyes.

That is a great looking little rifle. I too like RBs. I have a Pedersoli Creedmoor in 40-65, a 1867 Swede in 8 X 58RD, and a #4 in 22LR that was my uncles. I'll have to look around for a #2.
Last time I had my #4 at the range one of the Range Officers that I chat with could not believe how well that #4 shot.
Many years ago I had an original RB in 7X57 that had BATJAK stamped in the stock. That was John Waynes' movie company. The gun was extremely rusty but I still wanted to shoot it but a gunsmith I took it to showed me where the rust had eaten away at the chamber end of the barrel and the receiver. I sold it.

Hey Marlin! Post up some pics of your Nimschke .38-55 and take those two guys OUT!:bigsmyl2:

This thread's not doing me any favors either. . .a smallbore rolling block is something that may have to happen. . .

Sorry, but I don't have a Nimschke .38-55? I do have a Geo. C. Schoyen .38-55 though.

I'll bet by now you have found out you made a great move on this one. I have a #2 as well but mine is in 38 RF that I con erted over to CF. I had a brass heeled zboolit mould made for 125 and 150 grains. It's a tack driver. I have a Lyman sight and a Lyman 17-A globe on the front. I display it right beside my BSA Cadet. I have 6 rollers and love them all. They go froma #4 in .22 up to a #5 in 44-40. Enjoy that fine looking rifle and welcome to the RB club.

I got one when I was a kid. It was a 25 Rf, octagon barrel. Gun was in nice shape but bore was
totaled. I rebarreled it with 513 T Rem barrel. Has recover sight and aperture front. I still have
it after 50 some years. Still my go to rifle for the local turkey shoots.

That scope adjustment advice is not correct. You adjust this scope the same as you would adjust any rear sight ... Move the rear of the scope in the direction you want the boolit to move.

If you need the boolit to move left then move the scope left ... Move boolit right , scope needs to go right. Boolit up , scope up . Easy to get confused.

The difference is the adjustment knob for internal scopes, vs. external mounts. The external adjustment mounts turn clockwise to adjust left, where most internal adjustment turn clockwise to move the bullet strike right. The only exception on external adjustment mounts were Harry Pope's mounts. He threaded the rear adjusters lefthand, so by turning the adjuster clockwise, it moved the scope to the right. But since he only made maybe 60 sets of mounts, odds are most people wont ever see a set! Took me decades to find a pair!
