I found 2 ingots 3.3 lbs total of cerro matrix alloy in some scrap yard lead. This stuff is Bismuth 48%, Pb 28.5 %, Sn 14.5% & Sb 9%.

If I mix it in a 250 lb batch of 6-2-92 alloy would the 1.58 lbs of Bismuth cause any casting problems? If my math is correct it would be 0.006% of Bi for the total 250 lb.

Cerro is a low temp melt alloy. I don't know what effect the low % Bismuth will do for you. It might be worth more as what it was intended for than for sweetening your pot.

Make buck shot out of it!

Is this the stuff for making chamber castings with? If so, I'd be interested in buying some or all of it from you.

I think this about 240 deg F melting point , cerro safe is about 165 deg F. If you can use it send me PM.

Cerrosafe contracts at a specific rate in order to get it out of the chamber and to take measurements readings. I would not use any other "cerro" alloys for chamber casting partly because you may not be able to remove the sample from your chamber without re-melting it out. Ask me how I know.

I think it is quite likely that it would case extremely well. But I think it might melt at too low a temperature under bore friction.

Cerrosafe is an odd duck, it shrinks to allow removal than expands as casted size an hour later for measurements. Very useful for chamamber casting. If pure alloy, I'd leave be and save it for casting chambers cause it is rather pricey if you need some to cast a chamber.
