Started using hitek on boolits I could not PC due to the noses getting too big. Up till now I have fired at least 500 rounds in my suppressed 300 BO with no signs of lead in the suppressor. Now after trying them out and shooting about 50 rounds I am getting leading. The bullets have been lee's 200 grain, sans gc, with a powder charge of 8.8 grains of wc820 sized .310-11. I put 2-3 coats of hitek on them. Anyones else have this problem with hiteck

Hi=Tek will not lead if it is applied right. The 500 rounds you shot, were they hi-tek? Was the fifty rounds a different batch?

Did they pass the wipe and smash tests? Hi-Tek is not as forgiving as powder coat. If any part of the application or baking is off, it will not work. It took me several tries to get it right. I was putting the first coat on too thick.

first 500 were PC. THree thin coats is what I used. I have been thinking my oven may be the cause. Not the best and temp varies a lot.

Go to the simple hi-tek coating thread and find Hi-Tek and send him a pm. He is the inventor of this stuff and is a super nice guy. He answers his messages really quick. Remember he is in Australia and the time difference. He can help you. A twenty dollar multi-meter from wal-mart is the best way to check the temp of your oven.

Yes. verify your temp in the oven. Mine swings from 220Deg C down to 180 Deg C on the thermostat operation, but gives perfect baking of the coating in 10 minutes.

I have been playing with HITEK on pills for the 30/30 and find a 1/2 strength mix for the first coat works better. it seems to key to the alloy better. then use 2 normal strength coats.
