I have a Lee C 309-180-R mold and was wondering if anyone has ever used this in a 30-30 with success. I'm looking to use it in my Win. 94 at about 80 yds on deer and hogs. Welcome any receipes for the load also.

I will say yes I have shot this bullet in a 30-30. With that said please do not take offence to the next sentence. I do not share load data on the web. One glitch and not to mention my load is not been speed tested or pressure tested. I am sure others will help out. But I do load some with this bullet mainly for fugitive water jugs. I hp it ever so small.

Thats ok, I understand. I'm going to look in my cast boolits book and see if its in there. Just starting out with this so i'm going slow and taking my time.

We'll, I cast some boolits today and they came out great. Soon as i get my new star die from Lathesmith, I'm going to be shooting these baby's. Got some load data out of my cast boolits book to start with. Thanks

I use 3031 with Lyman 311291 which weighs around 170 grains. Maximum loading for 3031 is around 30 grains with that bullet or 311041. I found that 27 grains gave me the best grouping out of a 94 carbine and a 94 rifle. Moderate recoil and burning clean. Because the Lee 309 is listed at 180 grains which is slightly heavier you will (or should) reduce the charge if you do use 3031; you can start with 23 or 24 grains and then work up a grain a a time. The main point is that because of the increased weight you have to reduce the charge to allow for it. The Lee loading Manual lists other powders and loads for a 173 grain and 190 grain lead bullets which have starting loads that are in the 1700 fps starting range which is significantly below the maximum for 30/30 WCF.
