Friend of mine just bought a smith model 29-2 6'' barrel. Got it for a great price and wants to make it a safe queen. I am looking for original dimensions for the outside of the presentation case it would have come in. I am going to try to replicate the box and give it to him as a present. Not sure If he will loan me the gun for a few days to make the inlay and felt without raising suspicion but once I have the box, foam and felt on hand i'll make my best attempt. :D

Sweet, thank you very much. I may make a prototype box out of pine or something to make sure it looks right before I try it in mahogany.

I agree with the dimensions, your friend picked a good one. These are all pinned, recessed and smooth as silk. Two 6.5" and an 8.5" I do have a 6" .41 Mag. the 6" are harder to find.

.

The factory cases had an all blue lining, French-fitted.

This is a Model 29-2

I too have a model 29-2. The foam in my case is deteriorating but the S&W Dirty Harry is still making my day.
