Im not quite up on all the mold mfg's yet....but im wondering if anyone makes a hollow point mold for 38/357, like a 158gr old lead hp police loads (a 125gr would be OK too though). Oh yeah and whats the approx price.
thanks!

As far as I know, none of the manufacturers will do a HP mould these days. May be the chance of messing up a mould and it may be a lawyer thing.

The best way to get one is to find a mould you like and shoots good and see if Buckshot will HP it for you.

Either SC or DC will do. Sounds like your looking for a old Lyman 358311HP. I made one several years back and it shoots well. Now, I haven't tested to see if the HP opens./beagle

Lyman lists #356637 as being for 38 Spl/9mm Luger. 124 gr HP bevel base. May not throw a boolit large enough in diameter. ??

The new Midsouth Shooter supply catalog (yes I double checked the name) shows 3 hollow point molds.
The one that might interest you is #356637.
It's a 125 gr. bullet made for the 9mm it doesn't have a crimp groove but it does have enough space you could add a cannalure.

Otherwise it's buy a mold and have it done. A lot of guys do the 358156. sadly it is a gascheck design and many do not like that option.

If I was going to buy a new mold for this purpose I might take a good hard look at Lyman's 358429. This is a 170 grain boolit but after you lose some weight with the hp it might wind up right in the 150 to 158 grain range.

I'd buy a single cav if I could I think 170 is just to heavy for a wheel gun with avg (4") barrel length. So why by a dual cav and have boolits that don't work lying around?

If 170 is too hvy for you, look at this 358156. I sent a Lyman single cav. 358156 mold to Buckshot for him to remove the g/c shank and HP the mold.

Bullets weigh 142 grs. now with their HP, plus no expensive g/c to purchase and install during the loading process.

Look on evilbay, hollow point molds show up from time to time. There was one on there over the weekend.

Buckshot charges $28 to HP a mold ( + return shipping ) .

No, Buckshot can't do a Lee mold because of the manner in which the alignment pins are positioned below the bullet cav. by Lee.

Yes you can buy a HP mold off " Evil Bay ", but you'll end up paying about 3 X what you'll pay if you can pick up a nice used single cav. or 2 cav. Lyman mold and have it sent to Buckshot.
