Could someone who owns a 586/686 measure their revolvers firing pin length from the hammer to the end of the pin for me please,I'd like to know if mine has the original long pin or the M stamped modification pin. Thanks Pat

Surely someone has a spare 5 minutes to measure a firing pin. Pat

Due to the scope on my 686 and the rear sight on my 586, it's hard to get the caliper down in there to get an accurate measurement. The hammer at that location is not parallel, front to back to measure hammer and pin then deduct the width of the hammer. The best I can get is .200 protrusion of the firing pin from the front of the hammer. Neither of these revolvers have had any pin replacement. How much difference do you think there is between the original pin and the mod pin? Just curious.

I'm asking because mine leaves the deepest firing pin dent in fired primers that I've ever seen in any firearm,so deep the primers are pierced in anything over moderate loads, one of the reasons for the recall on these revolvers was because the pin would get stuck in the primer, mines got that problem.Thank you for taking the time to help, much appreciated.
