I've got a Taurus 1911 9mm. It's got a flat main spring housing and today I tried to put an arched housing on it that a friend gave me. His was to short, it wouldn't engage the grip safety and hold it in place. Is this a Taurus thing or do the housings come in different lengths?

The officers model housing would be shorter. Other than that I believe the housings are the same legnth. I am not sure about the Taurus 1911s as I have never handled one.

I do not have a Taurus 1911 but do have several others, and have encountered that very same problem with some of them as I favor the flat housing and have replaced the arched version. What you are probably dealing with is just a parts dissimilarity. You may have to replace both the housing and the grip safety using parts by the same manufacturer, not necessarily Taurus.

Probably from an Officers ACP, shortened grip frame by one round, and mainspring
housing, too. A normal full sized one should fit fine.

I've worked on the Taurus 1911s. Same specs as other 1911s so as was said, the housing that was too short was probably for an Officer's 1911.

Thanks for the answers, they help. I'll try some other housings.
