Took my High Standard 1911 .45 to the range today and fed it some boolits. Off of a rest it showed a preferance for Lee 200gr swc sized .452 over 6.0gr universal @ 691fps. also tried Saeco 230gr TC 5.0gr universal @660fps, Lee 155gr swc 5.5gr universal @ 772fps.:drinks: Groups were for 5 shots. 200-3" 230-6",155-5" may need to tweek loads a bit to shrink groups. all loads shot POA @ 25yrds.

I do most of my shooting with the .45 ACP in revolvers these days. I "no longer" enjoy bending over to pick up brass.

Love those target loads in the 625-8 although I am using Red Dot sights mostly, these days. It's nice to see the sights, again...

If I'd go back to shooting brass cases instead of the Wolf gray steel factory ammo I've been shooting lately over gray limestone gravel, I'd have a lot easier time! Bought that stuff thinking I wouldn't have to chase it, then learned it reloads easily and satisfactorily and couldn't stand to leave it there.

ricochet- mark em with a metallic gold pen. that shines just as bright as brass.

Will 691fps cycle your slide on this gun?

I think what I'm going to do is pick up one of those magnetic "pick up" devices next time I'm out at Tractor Supply. Ceramic speaker magnet on a handle, looks like a scaled down mine detector. It'll pick up all the steel cases, and I can pitch the old rusty ones.

Been thinking of that also, but there is alot of 7x39 steel laying around:(

Richochet;
Using various methods to picking up brass or "catching brass" is simply treating the "symptoms" NOT the cause.

End this pernicious practice. Shoot a revolver and STOP that disgusting habit of littering the landscape with empty brass. After shooting (a revolver) you merely open the cylinder and eject the brass into your waiting hand. Stop beating your head against a wall[smilie=b:[smilie=b:. Free yourself from that energy robbing activity. REVOLT er-r-r, I mean REVOLVE!!:veryconfu

All in jest, my friends, but lots of truth nonetheless...

If you have some WW SuperTarget try that under your Lee 200 gr. boolit. You should find a good load between 4.0 and 5.0 grains

When I passed 70 years of age I took the advice of that pitchman on TV, Billie Mays, and sent for one of those "grabber" things. A squeeze handle at one end and a pair of suction cups at the other that pinch the brass. No more bending over for this old shooter.

What is Saeco 230gr TC???

Saeco made a mold (#067 I think) that casts a 230 gr Trunicated Cone boolit.

It was a military rifle and Handgun match. Didn't fair too well with SKS:groner:
Pistol was 45 rounds shot offhand @ 25 yrds.
Trigger pull and crappy open sites on SKS. 40 rds @ 100 yrds Sittin, standing, prone fast, prone slow.
There's always next month. I was only one shootin cast (rifle and pistol). c.312-180gc over 22 gr IMR4895 (1600fps)in SKS.
