The gun has a microgrove barrel on it tho, doesn't that make it post '53?

The "J" serial number dates the frame to 1952. It could be rebarreled or a '52 left over frame that was barreled at a later date.

...........I really like the 35 Rem cartridge and feel that it really doesn't get the credit it is due. I don't have a Marlin in that cartridge but did build myself one on a M1894 Brazilian small ring Mauser.

I put it in in an el cheapo Ramline synthectic stock, and it's a heck of a shooter.

I really like the Saeco 200gr 35 cal mould and I'd suppose the RCBS would work just as well. It's quite a lot of fun with 7.0grs of W231 and a 148gr WC (yes, you have to single load it) but lemme tell ya, it'll make a mess out of a ground squirrel at 50 yards! :-) And accurate with that load? Yes it is. At 50 yards which is long range for a WC it'll keep 5 of'em in a group the size of a quarter.

However it's no slouch with serious 35 Rem full house loads. It will shoot cast with the same or better accuracy then jacketed. A 35 caliber soft nose or a FN cast slug at 2200 fps ( take your pick) will generally get the job done :-)

Wow, very cool. I'm itching to experience the .35 Remington goodness myself but too broke to do so right now. I do have an 1894 .357 so I can pretend at least.
