Scored some various brass the other day. Some Norma 7.7 Japanese plus a few re-formed 7.7(made from .30-06)....a few probably useless Berdan primed .303 British...and quite a few brass I'm reasonably certain are 7.65 Argentine/Belgian....anyhow these brass seem to match the dimensions of 7.65x53mm as per the Lyman book.

My 7.65 brass appears to be surplus ammo...head-stamped DA dated 65 and is boxer primed. Looks to be once fired surplus ammo brass. This is a chambering I have zero experience with(no rifle this caliber). Does the head stamp data sound right for 7.65x53mm surplus brass??

The fellow I got it from had thought this was 7.5x55 Swiss(it ain't..I measured)

I'm not aware of any boxer primed 7.65 Argie military (surplus) ammo. But then again, I don't know everything!!

Got pics? DA, well the DA I am familiar with is Dominion Arsenal in Canada now called IVI. I not aware they made 7.65 x 53. Sounds nifty
Be well

Perhaps is surplus .30-06 brass converted to 7.65 mm which would account for both the boxer primer and military head stamp.

This is what I'm wondering myself...has brass primers...and doesn't appear fresh from re-sizing...although that don't mean anything

Any .30-06, .270 or 8X57 brass can be used for 7.65

'DA' is the recognized headstamp for 'Dominion Arsenal' in Canada. They turned out quite a bit of 'oddball' stuff over the years...I've some loaded, boxer-primed, 7.92x57 with a '44' date, loaded in 5-round Mauser strippers and packed in unmarked brown cardboard packets that, supposedly, was manufactured for airdrop to various European partisan groups just prior to D-Day...but the complete headstamp includes the caliber: '7.92x57 DA 44',

On the other hand, over the years I've shot quite a bit of 7.65x53 milsurp without encountering any boxer primers. Yours could be some sort of 'limited run' Dominion stuff or it might have been formed from another caliber...but, if it were, why doesn't the headstamp include the original caliber?

Yeh...I was looking at my 7.7 Jap brass score....one case is an 8mm Mauser Rem 7.7 Japanese!

Believe it or not the Brit tanks used a machinegun called the BESA and it was chambered in 8X57. So I would not be surprised if the Canucks and the Brits manufactured 8X57 military ammo for use in their tanks.

The 8 X 57 works very well for the 7.7 x 58. Just a hair short but works fine. Can't tell it is any different than original 7.7 when you are loading it. I use an electric engraver on the original cartridge stamping on most of my converted brass.

You could be right, Inglis made bren guns in 8mm for the Chinese during WW2 too.
