An old timer who hangs out at the local gun shop now and again, has been getting rid of some of his reloading equipment. Part of which would be 3 old out of production bullet molds. All in the original Lyman Ideal Orange Box's, and all look to be in new or as new condition.
First up will be a 44-40 Lyman Mold. (ADOPTED)
Lyman 429434 Block #376
1 Cavity, Flat Nose, 215 grain, Gas Check Mold, that uses Top Punch 98
In a Lyman Ideal Orange Box Looks to be brand new, No Handle Screws are with the mold.
My limited research says this bullet is for a 44-40 Rifle, and that the bullet crimps over the front driving band.
Second up will be an Ideal mold for the Ballard 40-70, and 40-75
Ideal 412 174 Block #086 (ADOPTED)
1 Cavity, Plain Base, Flat Nose, 260 Grain, Using Top Punch 43
In a Lyman Ideal Orange Box No Handle Screws are in the mold. The mold looks to be in New condition.
My limited research indicated this bullet was for the Ballard 40-70 and 40-75 cartridge.
The third mold is another Ideal Mold for the 50-95 & 50-110-450 Winchester (ADOPTED)
Ideal 512 138 Block #974
1 Cavity, Plain Base, Flat Nose, 450 Grain, Using Top Punch 191
In a nice Lyman Ideal Orange Box If it has ever been used, you cannot tell it.
From my limited research: This bullet was first made by Mr Barlow for heavier ball for the 50-95 Winchester. It was afterword adopted as the standard bullet for the 50-110-450 Winchester Model 86 rifle.
Any additional information on the above rifle molds would be appreciated. I plan to list them for sale on here in a few days after learning a little more about them.
