I have yet to get any great accuracy with cast in the 222.

How about it, anyone doing something that obviously I am not.

I have some notes from about ten years ago that list this bullet used in a Sako .222. Alloy mix was approximately Lyman #2 (15 BHN) sized at .225". 10 grs. #2400 (MV=2170) and 12 grs. SR4759 (MV=2381). Rifle had a factory aperture sight and I fired it at 100 yards only. Accuracy was good for me with a peep sight, probably 2" - 2 1/2".

I built a savage with a McGowen barrel and 14" twist. Tried all the recommended fast powders with little luck. Started using regular rifle powders and settled on 21 grs. of IMR4064. I can get MOA most of the time. Rarely over 1.5" groups at 100 yds. I do use the lyman 225415 mold and I gave up sorting for weight. I do sort very hard for bad boolits. I use a gas check.

Good Luck....Floyd

I shoot a Remington 788 in 222 with a Lyman 225415HP. I cast the boolits with straight linotype and use Win. 748 powder for a velocity of 2500fps.Accuracy is good to at least 100 yards for groundhogs.
Shot this one running from my apple tree a year or so back.
