In regard to Lyman & RCBS lube-sizing dies, what does H&I actually stand for or signify?

My search fu must be weak, as I have not found an answer on the intergoogle.

Thanks!

I found a clue, but not an answer.

The stop on the 450 is adjustable for the "I" die (punch in the H die) when sizing cast bullets and is used the same as in this application. The "I" die also pushes the bullet back out as usual.

In the reloading manual, the parts are labeled as "H" and "I" in the exploded diagram.

Let's see if I can 'splain this.........First back in ancient times you have the Ideal No. 1 Bullet Luber and Sizer, then comes the Lyman or was it Ideal? No.45 Luber and Sizer. Ideal/Lyman had pictures/diagrams that identified the items and were labeled alphabetically as in H was the die body as it were. Item I just happened to coincide with the punch or "inside" punch for the sizing die. It seems to me that this just continued to carry on to the 450 and so forth.

Take a look at Castpics and look up diagrams for the older sizer lubers. You'll find one on page 17 of the Ideal Handbook No. 34 and others. Regards, Woody

You snooze you lose......... had this all typed up but got called away for a few minutes, came back and posted and .............was already answered.

HAHA! That is great.

I have a Lyman/Ideal owners manual for my Model 45's but never noticed the letter parts labels.

So simple, as the best things often are...

Thanks guys. :D
