View Full Version : FS Reloading - Big disappointment

On January 29th, I saw on Lee Precision's web site a list of their authorized distributors. There I found FS Reloading. I visited their web site and it looked legitimate and had very good prices for all of the items that I wanted. I placed an order on line and since one item that I ordered would not go into my shopping cart, I tried calling them numerous times. No one ever answered their phone. I went ahead and placed the order for everything else. I received an email receipt for the purchase and it showed that 2 sets of Lee Breech Lock Bushings were back ordered. I never received any shipping info for the rest. I emailed them repeatedly asking for shipping info. Nothing! I called several times on February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Still no one ever answered. I sent another email asking for shipping info on February 3rd and got a reply "Overloaded with order and falling behind in packing shipping will forward tracking". I replied for them to ship my order minus the 2 back ordered items.
They replied "running behind in packing and some items on backorder can cancel and refund if you cannot wait Lee is behind in production". Then they sent another that my entire order was cancelled and that they had issued me a credit for the whole thing. They then sent this "We are overloaded with orders and most of the order was on backorder at this time Lee is behind in production if you cannot wait we refunded there was noting to ship at this time" They didn't have any of the items in my long list and had not told me so.
I am furious with them and will not do business with them again. Lee's website says that for any warranty claims made for items purchased from "others", one must go to them for satisfaction. I placed the entire order for $165 with Midway and they have it all and will have it here in 2 days. Now that is customer service.

In the future go to Titan Reloading for Lee products. Their inventory is real time and you know how many they have in stock.

As far as Lee's warranty I always go to them no matter where I bought it. Fill out the form online and in short order you receive an email saying a new one is on the way. It couldn't be any easier.

This is exactly what I'd tell you as well! Titan has been my only source of Lee products for the last 5 years and have not let me down once.

I received my Classic Turret from Titan yesterday, and now their website is messed up. At first it said it was down for maintenance, now something else is there, or was a couple of hours ago.

I didn't have any issues with ordering from FS Reloading either. Titan Reloading's web page just loaded up just fine for me just now. Maybe clear your cache?

I have had problems with FS, Titan and Midway...just roll the dice and use whichever comes up...no difference. I have gotten to point that I mostly use MidSouth...they have not messed me up yet...I said "yet".

For Lee stuff I go Titan. There service has been great. I can choose flat rate and watch my shipping stay the same until I order more than will ship in a given size flat rate. When shipping jumps $5 or $6 I know what that last item will cost in freight and decide which item I don't need or order more to keep shipping of one more items from adding several dollars. Living in Ak. makes shipping a real issue. Some places will not ship flat rate and it can make a $15 item cost $50 with UPS or FED EX. UPS ground means it comes to Anchorage on a jet and you are charged accordingly and then delivered by truck and called UPS ground. The price starts at $35. Titan sends what I order fast and as cheap on freight as it gets. Most of the others, Midway, Grafs and such tend to be very high on freight to Ak.

At least you found out your items were back ordered... I got to find out when they shipped me a free 50 round ammo holder and a thing of alox... no mold to speak of. No tracking info sent, showed up in about 3 weeks...and showed up with no mold. Just a letter in the box saying it was backordered and would be sent out when they get it. Really held up my whole project I had going. FS... never again.

Edit - I also e-mailed them about 10 minutes after placing the order wishing to cancel my order after stumbling upon a large reloading store that carried molds not too far from me. A buddy told me right after I placed the order... Never received an e-mail back and they shipped it off anyway with half the order missing. I guess I cant blame them for "missing" the e-mail, so I decided to wait it out a week to get the mold from them. Little did I know I would never receive a shipping #, it would take almost a month and I would not even get my mold. I had no clue what was going on after 3 weeks with no notification, just a charge on my card. I feel like I'm being a baby about it...but i dont know, it really ticked me off for some reason.

Yes Titan is excellent service , I'm in Australia and deal with Titan only for Lee products , I have an account set up , and can see exactly whats in stock , and get an accurate quote on the freight to Australia.
Last order was for a heap of 44-40 stuff and got an email with in a couple of hours to say my order was processed and another a couple of hours later telling me it has shipped and the tracking number,,, it was here with in 10days . Most of the Lee stuff sold here s double or more the price than what it is in the US , even with postage from the US its still cheaper . Titans online prices are a bit cheaper that Lees own website.
I'm even considering buying a Lee cast classic press and getting it shipped to Oz. Cheapest I can get here is just short of 200AUD plus post which will be around the 30.00 AUD mark.
Service is not a consideration here in Oz most retailers think they are doing you a favor when they sell some thing you want . They have a lot to learn from US retailers.
I also have dealt with Brownells, Midway ,and Natchez . Midway are some what problematic , as they have a dealer here in Oz and won't ship some stuff here.
RCBS and Hornady are the same , I can't buy an RCBS mold or parts for my RCBS and Hornady equipment online direct from RCBS or Hornady as it cuts out their Australian importer . Sort of like protectionist behavior and scalping with prices four or five times the cost of the same part in US.
I'm must say that Natchez will sell me any RCBS or Hornady stuff , their service is pretty good , but freight cost is a bit steep.
So with that I buy mostly Lee stuff, RCBS and the others can go bust as far as I'm concerned

On molds and other reloading stuff (no powder or primers) is it legal for someone in the US to send these kind of things to you or does it have to go through some kind of expensive import thing?

I like Midway, Midsouth, Amazon, and Titan. Since I am retired I pay attention to price and delivery. Amazon has been slack on some deliveries lately, but are generally good for me. I just received my first Titan order on Tuesday, and I have a reloading table full of new toys.

Similar experience several years ago. Items ordered only to wait a week to find out none in stock and then struggle to get the refund. First and last order all at once. I can't stand being allowed to order things that aren't in stock. Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago with OpticPlanet. Placed the order and a day later I get an email saying my order will be shipped in 7-18 days when the items are back in stock!!

All you companies out there, if you are listening, please don't let us order things you don't actually have!

Not sure what's going on, but I have seen (and participated in) these threads on a number of sites. FS is really upsetting customers lately. Wonder what is up? I have used them once (on the recommendation of a friend who had ordered from them many many times with good luck), and my experience was my last. They are getting beat up all over the web.

I deal with Mid-South, Midway and most of the time, Widener's. I cannot deal with Chattanooga because they evidently have an agreement with the gun shops in Tennessee not to sell to Tennessee residents except at retail prices. I can understand that in a way, they don't want to be in competition to their customers; the gun shops. I am very careful about Midway though. great service but unless you have a large order, small items will go into a great big box and you get hammered on shipping charges. Widener's is usually my first option, as I live near them and they sell at low costs and their is no shipping charge. Every situation will be a little different. Small businesses have a hard time with inventory and getting orders out because of the smaller number of employees they can hire, but even some larger companies have problems, usually related to customer relations. All too often as they grow bigger, less emphasis is put on customer relations and more emphasis put on inventory control and shipping and billing. Customer relations is lifeblood of any business and any business that neglects it, puts its future in peril. my thoughts and experience anyway. james

James,

With Wideners selling the business and no longer offering walk in sales along with what appears to be higher prices it might not be so good any more. Last December they were selling presses so cheap I had to buy one just because, but now it appears it was to get rid of inventory before the ownership change on 1/1/2016.

We will see.

I did not know the business had been sold. I have been dealing with them since the late 60's and I knew the owner had been sick for some time but haven't been over there is about a year or so. As the old saying goes: "all good things must come to an end". Sad. Thanks for the info. james

I recently placed my first order with Midway and it was a TERRIBLE experience! Not just the incorrect shipping dates and what was out of stock but customer service was very rude and refused to give a refund for an order that had not even shipped and still said 'processing' on their site. To top it off I keep trying to unsubscribe to their email promos that litter my inbox and they just keep coming.

I have ordered from both FS and Titan, and have found Titan to be MUCH better service. Titan has also been very helpful and responsive to small questions I have sent by email or phone. Titan did do a complete rebuild of their web server last week and there were a couple of hiccups, but I think they have them all sorted out now.

Titan's always been great for me too. But there's a small shop in Arvada, CO, called Reloaders Corner that has a pretty good inventory and his prices are OK when I factor in shipping and wait time. It's not real close to me but it's in the Denver Metro area, so it's a minor drive but I can have what I want in my hand in under an hour. It's the only place I've ever found any bullet molds in stock. I like to support the small businessman when I can with my meager purchases.

No not illegal for some one to send moulds and reloading gear or parts (not gun parts ) , brass cases and projectiles need to be an authorized purchase by our local coppers first ,by way o f a B709 which is sent to the Customs giving permission to buy .
A B709 costs $57.00AUD to process by the local cops.

I believe there are now more or less prohibitive restrictions on the export of rifle and pistol cases from the US, although not shotgun cases. No doubt some dealers know it and some don't. I was able to buy 24ga brass cases from Buffalo Arms, though they wouldn't have sold me .577 . Just think of the hammering terrorism is taking from all this.

I can remember hearing with incredulity someone saying that it would soon be difficult to be in business without a website. Now it's true, but the result is that some companies try to run websites who aren't really up to it.

Right now they are on the opposite sides of town, but shortly, Titan is moving to a much large building. I'm one of the lucky ones as I can just drive about 6 miles to Titans store.. The last time I was there, I believe they said they were going to move into the new building in May. IIRC. When in the new building, they will be closer to each other. About a mile as the crow flies

I had an order that wasn't packed properly and the 'tin' of sizing wax opened and melted all over things and one of the alox bottles did too. There were three sizing dies in that order. I called, complained and explained about the packaging being sub-substantial and that the entire order has rolled around in the alox and sizing wax. The fella said 'Sorry for the inconvenience, a complete new order is on its way…'overnight'! Send some pictures please so we can trash a few fellas in shipping!'
I said "thanks, will do!"
Now I have two of everything in the order.

It was 'Midway USA'.

This is exactly what I'd tell you as well! Titan has been my only source of Lee products for the last 5 years and have not let me down once.

I introduced Dennis at Titan to this website a few years ago. He has been a sponsor ever since. I buy all my Lee stuff from him and the service has been great. The longest amount of time I have ever had to wait for a backordered item was the time it took for him to drive to Lees factory and back.

You'll note he has a banner at the top of this page. Others don't.

For the life of me I really can't remember what I ordered from FS. The kicker is I own only a couple of Lee production side of tools. I have quite a bit of custom services stuff. I believe it was a rifle FCD in 44-40. Transaction was fast and uneventful. Titan takes care of a couple of MEC bushings for me.

Check Titan's Ebay store and their sold through Amazon items. An Auto Drum powder measure was $4 less delivered price on those Titan "store fronts" then his own site which I found interesting. $44.99 shipped versus $48.39 shipped to the left coast from Dennis' own site. Midway was $44 shipped a while back also. That said most all my new Lee products come from Titan also because of the great customer service.

Greg at FS has had some issues in the last years for some reason which has pushed a lot of folks another direction and it is very rare his prices shipped beat Titan.

But the competition between them all is a good thing, for us.

Well let's face it. Lee customer service sucks horribly and they just pass the buck with that "if you don't buy it from us go where you bought it" BS. That is just their way of weaseling out of standing behind their junk in any way shape or form. I either own or have used nearly everything Lee made/makes, so I know from using it what is good and what is trash that Lee turns out. This is not some internet BS, it is personal experience. Sure Lee dies are the best bang for the buck, but the Perfect powder measure and the new drun powder measure are trash, as is most of their pot metal presses. If their stuff was any good, they would have a lifetime warranty and not the 2 year warranty they don't stand behind anyway.

I'm not a Lee fan. I have a handful of their production stuff and quite a bit of stuff from their custom services side. Custom services and production side seem like two different companies. I have bought every Lee press minus the Classic Cast series and their progressives. I bought directly from Lee and they do honor their 30-day money back guarantee. Long story short, out of all the presses I bought, only the hand press remained. They use aluminum for their presses not pot metal. I have not had a positive experience with replacement items either.

Lyman has a one year warranty. I don't own presses from Lyman, or the Hornady LNL, RockChucker or CC series. I don't care for them.

There is nothing worse then paying for something and paying for good faster shipping and they do not even box it up for over a week. I have this happen often. This is one of the man reason for my to not buy again from that vendor. In my world I order things when I need them. If I choose the faster option of shipping and pay more you had better get it boxed and shipped asap. Walmart got me on this one over the winter. I do not order from them online anymore. If you charge my card you had better ship within 24 hours.

Not sure how I feel about that one C.Latch. Did they give you an expected shipping date on the other items? I recently bought 16k projectiles. They told me ahead of time it was going to be a few days before they could get them boxed and shipped. At the price I paid I did not care. To be honest with how hard it has been for me to get lead these days the final cost was less for the jacketed. A one time thing that worked out.

First of all I eschew Lee products and therefore have no experience with them. I order from Midway, Graf and Son and Mid-South and have no particular preference, I just shop the price. If you are willing to pay full price Brownells is as about as good as it gets for quick shipping and product service. They are my last choice due to price, but I do order from them, from time to time.

The invoice is confusing. It lists the item, quantity ordered, quantity shipped, then date of shipping. I missed the quantity shipped and just saw that every item said it was shipped on 2/17. At the bottom I noticed that the costs didn't add up (it didn't -0- out the invoice) and then looked closer.

No idea when other stuff will ship. It may be that my email asking about my order prompted them to go ahead and ship what they could and the rest will be....whenever.

LOL I hate to say this but sounds like they are DROP shipping your items. This is the kinda invoice I used to get when a company would drop ship the items not in stock and ship what they had in stock. Some times you would not get the drop shipped stuff for months. I agree on the charge-my-card thing. It may not be 24 hours per se, but I'm pretty sure Visa & MasterCard policy is that they're not supposed to charge your card until it is in stock and ready to ship. I do (on the odd occasion when it happens) report vendors who charge and sit.

I remember old times, too. Business to business was serious stuff, then as now, but for consumers "wait 6 to 8 weeks for delivery" was in nearly every mail order catalog, and they meant it, too.

Another update:

I think it was the 18th that I said I got a shipping email, but it had no tracking number in it.

On the 24th I got a different shipping email, with an actual tracking number.

The first one showed roughly 1/3 of my order as shipped, the second showed 2/3 of it being shipped.

It arrived this morning, all in one box, so it didn't actually ship until the 24th. I'm still out the other 1/3 of the order, but it clearly says that it's backordered and will be shipped at no extra cost when it shows up.

Today also happens to be the first day I've had time to cast since I placed that order, so it's no big deal, really. But tonight when I have cast a mountain of bullets with this new 6-cavity mold and I don't have dies to load them with (that's the other 1/3 of this order!) I'm going to be pulling my hair out.

Well, as of yesterday I had no further word on my die set that hadn't shipped. I sent an email last night asking about the possibility of getting a refund.

Got a shipping notice this morning.

That's a good question, I have experienced it with ebay shippers in the past. Label is printed and tracking sent but it doesn't get picked up for a week.

Yesterday afternoon I got a personal email saying it had shipped, and the tracking shows it arriving tomorrow. So I think we're good there.

None of this would be an issue if they had an inventory system that didn't show things in stock if they weren't actually in stock.

I've been using Midway since they mailed out catalogs and you filled out the order form, wrote a check, and hoped what you needed was in stock. Have also used sinclair, mid south and graffs with no problems. Will give Titan a look next time I have a shopping list.

I use Midway just for the wish list. Their shipping is Terrible, over a week to me, and most times the package goes into limbo when it hits Phoenix. I can often find what I'm looking for on EBAY at the same price with free shipping.

Midway's shipping is awesome, orders are shipped same day or next day.

I submit your choice of shipping carrier is what is Terrible. Price of shipping, yes, usually Midway can be beat.
