Does anyone know what this might be? A friend gave this to me. Its about 7.5 l 1.5 h and 2.5 wide and weighs about 5lbs looks like a Indian Chief in full head gear any ideas.

drop it on the cement if it goes thud it's a plumbers lead ingot.
if it rings or tinks it's either solder or babbit.

Sort of a long shot but back in the day motorcycle shops rebuilt a lot of parts that in later years were generally bought ready made. Would be an interesting piece of history if that was Babbitt for making bearings on an Indian Motorcycle, provided by the manufacturer.

You tell me that logo in these old gas tank emblems is very close to the ingot logo to my eye.

Years ago I worked in an BSA, Triumph, and Norton shop and we handled some Indian parts. Seldom used stuff for rebuilding batteries, or some of the other odd equipment but we did still put brake pads on the old shoes by hand, along with rewinding alternators and some other things that are just not done. We purchased bearings but I could imagine us pouring them in a mold if the metal and mold were available.

Well it rings like a church bell and the dimensions are near identical to your emblem's. More investigation is needed
