Got busy with a lot of other things so had to take a break from my current build. It's finally starting to look more like a rifle. Bedford Co. in .50 cal.

I haven't seen that much of my benchtop in at least 5 years.

Looking good! Hope you'll continue with the pictorial updates of your progress.

bench was just cleaned for pics. Ten minutes earlier it was covered with wood shavings, sawdust, and tools. Kept losing chisels in the shavings and sawdust haha

Be sure to report when it's finished and tell us how it shoots. Like the pegged support fixture.

You've got the hard part done, now for the gravy. Always remember, when you think you have taken off enough wood, take off a bunch more!

The Bedford is a slim rifle, is why I like them (tis is my 2nd). lot of wood to take off yet. Still have some to take off the butt before I even start inletting the patch box.

Beerd, no it's a straight barrel. Bedfords used straight. I still need to slim up the butt stock, inlet the patch box and final shape the forend. After that it get 9-10 inlays. Still a few more months of work (time permitting). Like the last one, target finish date is for mid July. That gets it some range time and ready for the woods in Oct (if I don't use the .45 cal Bedford I built last year). Already thinking of the next one. Just have to decide on caliber. PLan on making it as a gift to my son, so probably will be in .50 cal

Wind, no. It has some curl in it as it is. It's a mid grade piece of wood. Probably about 70% or so curl, you just can't see it in the pic. though you can see a little on the butt and wrist.

This is my 2nd, and learning more from the 1st. I figured by the 3rd I'd be ready to make one for my son. Maybe by the 5th or 6th I'll be ready to sell. Maybe haha. A continuous learning process. But have decided to stay with the Bedford PA style. Really like the feel and really don't know anyone else offhand that makes them on a regular basis.

Funny thing is I've had people compliment me for taking on such a hard to do style to learn on. Being the only ones I've done, guess I don't know any better. Guess, from what I've been told, if I did a Lancaster after these, it'd be a breeze. haha. If I decide I want another .54 cal or larger, I'll have to do a different style

Good looking rifle. I built a Bedford but copied an Peter White piece, so non-traditional. Lot's of fun.

One of my favorite styles of PA longrifles. They're just svelte and sexy. Nice work!
