View Full Version : Ejectors for a contender?

I have been informed that in the past, a rare option for Contender barrels was an ejector setup. Does anyone have one of these? Do you like it? Does anyone still have one or know where you can get it done? TC no longer offers the service.

Never heard of such a thing. Are you sure you're not thinking of H&R Handi-Rifles. They sometimes have ejectors.

Take care, Tom

My only information comes from several people stating that the old TC Custom shop used to do it, and that they owned several in the past. I have never seen one.

I would love it if it were possible, but none of the custom TC guys seem to say anything about it on their sites.

Well I'll be sheep dipped! Thanks for sharing that. I'll look too, and if I find anything I'll let you know.

I have sent emails inquiring about the subject to a couple of well known TC vendors. Always thought there was something fun about ejectors in break actions! I still have yet to find solid evidence they ever did or do exist, though.

Have you tried Mike Bellm ( mike@bellmtcs.com ). If anyone knows, I would think he would.

He was my first thought and I sent an inquiry to him. I have bought a few odds and ends from him in the past and he is definitely the "Contender Guy".

I had a 44 mag barrel that was an ejector mod. But it was reamed to 444 Marlin when I got it. Only one I've seen. If it worked well the previous probably wouldn't have changed it back.

The barrel lug had been changed quite a bit.

Very interesting!

I received a response from EABCO. It is not particularly helpful but I will call them soon.

Subject: Contender barrels with ejectors?

Great question,

Please call during our call in hours 8-5 CST and we can check with a gunsmith and get it on order if we do have this available.

Sincerely,

Is the under lever spring loaded? Would be interested in knowing what is going on in there. The spring and bolt would normally go back about .900 from the barrel face, not sure what they did there.

I guess an ejector would be fine if you don't mind hunting for brass. I really like being able to pull the brass out by hand and dropping it into my shirt pocket. Good luck on your venture though.
Shoot!!!! I wish I had remembered where I was reading, this thread is 7 months old.

TC barrels with ejectors were a spinoff the old S&W Masters competition back in the late 1980s-early 1990s. The long-range match required 10-shot strings fired in two minutes at ranges out to 200 meters. The TCs were at a disadvantage against the XP-100s so the custom shop built some barrels with ejectors to reduce reload time. Saw a few on the firing line but never owned one as I was shooting an SKS Contender in 7JDJ #2 (necked-down .307 Win.) in those days; could shake out empties with a flick of my wrist while I was reaching for fresh cartridge with my other hand. The concept pretty much died out when Remington introduced magazine-fed XP-100s. Wasn't long after that the 'pros' (with big-money sponsors!) went to handgun-modified AKs in 7.62x39.
