I have a Sako 85 in 308 winchester
it feed great
I would like to know is the me plat large enough its .0150 the mould is Saeco 301
will be using it for moose
would like to get a larger me plat but I am afraid of feeding problem
your opinion would be apreciated
and if any of you have a Sako 85 in 308 and used a larger me plat I would like to know
thanks
My opinion is the alloy, the velocity of the bullet and where you put it are much more impt. than the meplat dia.

thanks Ben
fps I will try to get 1900 to 2000
alloy wheel weight water cooled from the mould
yes it does feed great I have a 4 cavity mould in 301
was wondering if I needed a larger meplat
I think my only concern would be the bullet fragmenting upon hitting large bone. Might be a good idea to test your load on something similar to your moose, and see how your bullet behaves upon impact.
Maybe a meat packing house would give you some scrap meat that you could pack tightly into a 3' long X 1' high X 1' wide plywood box. If you can't get the meat, dirt or sand would also put the bullet to the test to see if it is going to fragment.

WD WW's are tough and I don't think they will break up. However I have shot them through deer with just a clean hole with little internal damage, pink lungs with just a hole and long, long runs. My boolit was too fast.
I would not worry about the meplat but I think I would cast a soft nose on them. I would start with just half the nose softer. Try 3# of pure with 1# of WW metal and a light touch of tin. Pour in first, then the hard lead and WD. That will give a nose of 11 BHN.
Again, it is the animal that will say what works.

I don't think I would HP them, might stop penetration. A moose is a big critter.
