Hopefully the picture will come through. It shows the lead I scraped out of the the barrel at and just ahead of the forcing cone. This is from shooting last Sunday (1-24-16) the mess weighs 13 grains. After three days of driving slugs into the cylinder throats and forcing cone and measuring with three different micrometers, the throats are .430 - .4305 and the groove diameter just ahead of the forcing cone is .426. Will re throating resolve this much discrepancy between the throats and groove diameter? I've also driven a couple slugs into the muzzle and it to is .426 I first shot some jacketed loads through it then cast boolits which are 431 and lubed with Felix. This mess is from 80 cast boolits. Thoughts?

Enlarging the throats will only exaggerate the difference between groove diameter and throat diameter.

Re-cutting the forcing cone and/or lapping the barrel may help.

It might be better just buy a new barrel: http://www.ewkarms.com/zen8/

Eric doesn't list any 44 barrels at the moment, but he does make them. You could write and inquire.

By the way, my 44 DW has a small diameter barrel too, but the cylinder throats are also tight. In my case the relationship works.

Yet another possibility is to seek help from Dan Wesson (CZ). They still work on 44 Dan Wessons, although they don't build them anymore.

Ah, yet another thought, Dougguy here on this list can probably recut your forcing cone. I don't think he has an FFL, so don't send the whole gun. But if he has a Taylor throating gig he can do the barrel.

Taylor throating recuts the forcing cone, with the intent of removing "frame choke." Dan Wesson revolvers don't suffer from this constriction, but since your leading is in the forcing cone, it may help.

I'd look for another barrel.
actually I'd get one off my shelf and screw it on the frame.
but if I were you I'd look for another barrel, or a 44-40 cylinder and shoot .427 boolits.

This is an old thread but if the OP still hasn't done much with the DW to stop the leading, this will help. I turn these in a lathe and use a small tool post grinder to recut the forcing cone on 5 degrees:
