I have 50 311365, sized .311, checked and lubed with Ben's red, and want to load and shoot these from my Tika T-3 hunter 1-12 twist, to see if they work. I have fire formed brass that they will fit into and a factory crimp die for the crimp.
Boolits weight right at 200 gn.

I have IMR 4064,8208XBR, Varget, Unique, WSF and Enforcer powders to chose from.

OAL will be 2.775

First i need to know if the crimp will work and then some possable load data to start with and what FPS they will be around.
I do have a crono for development.

If they work I will eventually use this for targets out to 200 yds or so.

Thanks for any help and suggestions , Steve

hmm, lots to answer here.

Ever shot cast before? I ask because I don't know your skill or history with cast bullets. Not trying to offend.

I'm sure the crimp will work but it may not be needed.

The 311365 is a really pointy bullet, and probably not the best choice for hunting.

Personally I'd steer away from that one for hunting. 311284, 311041 or some other round nose or flat point would be my suggestion.

Of your powder choices I would try Varget first and aim for around 18-1900 fps to start. Use 190 or 200gr jacketed load data for your cast projectile.

Thanks Blammer,

I have been casting for a few years for my 9mm, 40, 357 rifle, and 45 acp & colt with very good results but not for the 308.

I know that the 311365 is not a good choice for hunting and should have posted that. I'm more interested to see if it will work in my rifle for target shooting and then find a good hunting boolit for it.

From what i can find they should be around 2000 fps

If i can make it work for me then i will get all the right neck sizeing dies and mold for a hunting boolit of more appropreate design.

Thanks for your help, Steve
