As this originated in the "Cast Bullets & Bullet Casting" FaceBook group I'd like to post the same discussion here for input.

Jonas Björk:

Is there any software available that is capable of simulating a bullet and/or cartridge in a chamber? It would not have to be 3D, a 2D image of how and where a bullet drawing meets the standard spec throats would be of great educational value in bullet choice and mold design.

Glen Fryxell:

The NRA Handloading book has a series of cartridge and chamber drawings, but off the top of my head that's the closest thing I can think of to what you're asking for.

Jonas Björk:

Yes, drawings put on top of each other has been the ground work for the idea. I would however like the versatility of changing variables in bullet diameter, length, ogive angles etc and see how it affects the predicted contact points in the chamber.

Glen Fryxell:

I think it's a great idea!

Jonas Björk:

Something like this... A paper doll software for boys.

Jonas Björk:

There's a guy on the CB forum that does drawings for most group buys. "45 2.1" Maybe he could have input on the idea? Anyone know if he's in this group?

Glen Fryxell:

Dan Lynch (https://www.facebook.com/mtngun?hc_location=ufi) wrote up the software for his bullet design spreadsheet. Perhaps he could add something for the chamber/throat dimensions.

Dan Lynch:

Dan Lynch (https://www.facebook.com/mtngun?fref=ufi) Unfortunately, Dan sees no profit in writing software for free. Emoji frown In the meantime, there are several free CAD programs you can use to your heart's content.
.
There are basically 5 possible ways a bullet can make contact. Here are 4, in a not-so-great drawing

And also you can have a long freebore that is a snug fit.

Dan Lynch:

There is a guy who sells a cast bullet drawing and database-ing software, I don't have a link but since he already has the software to draw the bullet he is already halfway there. You might ask him. But I doubt if he has ever made a profit on his software.

The Precision Cast Bullet Design~Ultimate software was designed expressly for this purpose and works very well.
(Requires the use of either Cast Bullet Design ~ Basic or ~ Advanced software)

Tom,
thank you for the information. It looks great and I recognize the result Pictures from the group buy design threads.

How is the software delivered? Download or CD/DVD?
How are updates delivered? Download or CD/DVD?
Are updates free or must they be purchased?
If I install it in both my office and my reloading room, do I need to buy two copies?

Forgive me that I am cautious, however I have had very bad experience with similar software (Quickload), so I would like to straighten the questionmarks beforehand.

Whistler,

I thoroughly understand your caution. Been there. Done that.

All Precision Software modules are based upon mutually shared databases that eliminate the need for repeatedly entering data.

Although the Precision Software databases do contain a great deal of data that may be used as-is or edited to user specifications, the intended function of all Precision Software modules is that of the user's ability to intuitively enter, edit, store and retrieve data that is relevant to his or hers' firearms, ammunition and reloading components or equipment.

Delivery:
All Precision Software modules may be purchased and downloaded from the Precision Software Store.
No registration or license keys are required for the software installations. I have faith in the integrity of members from our firearms based community.

Up-DATES:
Updates are FREE and downloadable. Users are notified by email of updates. The updates consist mostly of user-friendly changes and minor bug fixes. Some updates may contain a new data. No user data is altered or deleted.

Up-GRADES:
Upgrades must be PURCHASED and are downloadable. Users are notified by email of upgrades that upgrade existing software to improved or advanced versions of the existing software. Additional data fields may be added to the databases and populated with calculations that use values from the existing data. No user data is altered or deleted.

Licensing:
All TMT Precision Software modules are licensed to install on two computers and also may be installed on removable media.

For more information concerning the scope and applications of all the Precision Software modules, go to the TMT Precision Ballistics and Records website (http://tmtpages.com/)and follow the links to each of the displayed software packages.

Hi guys maybe, I am just really dull, but I bought this programme and just can't get it to do what I want.

It looks like it has a lot of really good features, but its not the most user friendly or intuitive piece of software!

I am trying to draw up wildcats from existing chamber and cartridge drawings! How do you make a copy of a case and then editthe copy whilst leaving the original the same?

Also I accidentally deleted 222 rem in an attempt to save a wildcat version, how do I get that back?

andym79,

Intuitive and user friendly data entry procedures are the most challenging aspects of developing technical software for users with wide ranges of technical and computer skills.

Feedback from users is the most valuable of the tools I use to improve the user friendly aspect of the Precision Software (http://www.tmtpages.com/) modules.

I have been hard at work for the last 8 months on changes, additions and improvements that should significantly improve the user friendly aspect of all Precision Software Products.

New, upgrades to the Precision Bullet Design and Evaluation software modules (http://www.tmtpages.com/#ultimate)are completed and the Precision Shooting Software Store (https://secure.tmtpages.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=76&zenid=874e428d2e94fd6c07df1d7dcf48d872)website is in the process of being edited to offer the purchase and installation of the upgrades. (Still a lot of work to be finished there)

Recent purchasers of the Precision Software modules will, of course, be offered the upgrades at no cost.

When the upgrades are ready, an announcement will be posted on this forum and all users will receive an email notification.

And yes, the new version of the Cartridge Editing module does have the ability of creating a copy of an existing cartridge record with only a different lot number value.
Hopefully, the Chamber Editing module will have the same ability (some bugs are still being worked on).

Included here are previews of the data entry pages of the new Precision Cartridge Data Module with a duplicate of the 222 Remington File selected and ready for editing and the Chamber Data Module.
You can use the values to re-enter your lost 222 Rem cartridge data.

You can recover your 222 Remington Chamber and Cartrige values from the links to both the SAMMI and European C.I.P chamber and cartridge dimension values that are contained in the Help File installed with your software.

Bring up your Cast Bullet Design Ultimate Menu Bar and click on the Help Icon.

http://www.tmtpages.com/LinkSkyImages/Bullet%20Design/Ultimate_Menu.PNG

This will open the Help file to the first page ~ "Basic Steps for using the Cast Bullet Design ~ Ultimate software"

Under Item 1, select:
Use reamer or SAAMI and C.P.I. chamber dimension values

Then scroll down to and click on
SAMMI Centerfire Rifle Cartridges
Or
C.I.P. Rimless Cartridges

Both of these websites will allow you to select PDF files of cartridges that you can download directly for viewing or printing.

For your convenience, this is a link to the SAAMI 222 Remington page where you can view and print the Cartridge and Chamber data.
