I had a nice condition old Lyman M5 scale given to me but it is missing the lower pan. (it hooks on the beam and holds the powder pan). I can make one but I need it to weigh close to the original I think. Some loading forums suggest that it is the same as the old RCBS 10-10 scale. I would appreciate any advice and if someone could weigh theirs for me. Thanks, Paul in Mississippi

My Rcbs 5-10 scales pan hanger has a cup under it that holds lead shot to help zero out the scales. The wire hanger clips around this cup and the pn form is screwed to it with one screw thru center. Make up the hanger with a cup set up the scales and pan should be bottomed out high add fine lead shot to pan to zero scales out. add to cup under pan Set back up and check with a set of check wieghts for zero and accuracy thru its range.

My Lyman scale is 40 years old, would it likely be an M5? Not sure how to weight the pan, I would need another scale. My other scales are not that accurate. The pan holder is thin bent aluminum with a pocket and cover with a screw, the pocket seems to hold ballast for adjusting the weight of the pan holder. If you have another scale I suggest you hang some weights from the hookeye until the scale zero's then weigh the weights, subtract the pan weight and make a pan holder that weight.

Mine is the M5 in the not so hot picture. Powder pan was 142.7 gr and hanger was 215.8 gr.

At one time, both Lyman and RCBS were rebranded Ohaus scales.

Thanks to all for the replies. It looks like 215.8 - 225 grains gets me close, thanks again, Paul
