marking what alloy is in pot

I had two identical Lee 20 pots at one time. At my age I really would forget what was in them from one casting session to the next

Hit on idea that after pot cooled, using a black marker, print right on top of lead that was still in pot.

Pd, WW2, #2, etc; quick and goes away when heated up next time

helps this old guy out a number of times

Walter - that works. My method is a stick on label with the alloy mix stuck on the top of the pot. All my pots have labels

I write the alloy on the stand portion in Sharpie what the alloys are. I have 3 20lbers with WW, range lead and 50/50 WW/lead. The alloy doesn't change. If I did clean out the pot and change alloy, the sharpie is removable with a little alcohol.

My Lee is my backup pot which I use now and then. Can have a wide range of alloys in it over time. Figured this was quick and easy but then so are you fellows' suggestions

After getting the melt back up to the top B4 shutting down I draw off a 1/4# ingot in one of my Lee molds, air cool it, test the hardness and write that on the ingot with a Sharpie along with pot #1 or #2. Then put ingot on top of pot when cool. I can then test the ingot for hardness increase in a few days and remark. If I can wait that long B4 firing up again and casting!!!!!!


Then just re-melt the little sample ingot the next time.

I just write the alloy on a piece of paper .. put on front edge of the pot .. If I change Alloys old paper is carbon for the pot

I use the same steel stamps I mark ingots with.
