Just Numbers???

I have been working with WW-230 and the 44-250-K bullet. Just for curiosity, I divided the chronographed velocity by the number of grains of powder used. Do these numbers mean anything or do they just show that I divided the velocity by the grains of powder and nothing more than this?

6.5 grains = 146.92
7.0 grains = 142.14
7.5 grains = 139.13
8.0 grains = 134.38
8.5 grains = 134.31
9.0 grains = 134.00

Shows that 8.0 grains is most efficient. I would use 8.5 grains because it is in the middle of the "max" range, giving a little leeway in terms of ambient temp variation. ... felix

If you were to chart those numbers, velocity vs. powder weight, you'd see a curve that rises steeply at first and then begins to flatten. If you were to continue the graph, it would become nearly flat and even possibly begin to decline as the powder weight exceeds it's ability to burn completely. If you were to do the same thing with different boolit weights and powders, you'd have a visual representation of the efficiency of each load.

It's interesting, but not particularly useful, I don't think, unless you wanted to use the curve as a way to guesstimate a load for a new boolit.
