I just bought a bottle of Winchester WST. The color is light gray. Is this correct?

Thanks.

Kind of a lighter colored Bullseye. WSF is also.

Sounds right. Was there a paper seal under the cap? If there was no seal, no guessi g what you may have and you should take it back where you bought it or refund or exchange for factory sealed canister.

I remember my first lb of WST and I had the same surprise! I like it for 45 ACP and I've used it for light 357 with 358429 and 358477/RCBS 150 KT with good results. A lot going for it, frankly....

I plan to use it in 45acp. My friend says 6gr is the ticket. I'll be using the H&G 68 -- 200gr SWC. 6gr sounds a little heavy to me.

The Hodgdon data site calls for a max of 5.1 grains of WST with a 200 grain cast boolit.
My Lyman 49th edition calls for 4.9 grains as max.

This is THE powder for 45acp target. I would be quite happy with 4 or 5 jugs. :)

Also great for plainbased, cast gallery loads in the .30-'06 about 8 to 8.5 grains with 150-170 grain bullet.

Kinda depends. The US Army action shooting team (don't recall name exactly, but you get it) uses 5.0 grains WST with a 230 gr bullet and they dominate. Quick shot-recovery with that powder/bullet combination in their autos......

i shoot 45 ACP in a BH convertible with 452374 and an H&G 68 flat-base knockoff at 200 gr. 5.0 was light with both boolits. I've gone up to 5.6 gr, but I would tread carefully in any auto-loader, you know?

Under 200gr SWC I think I could give you a run for your money with my Promo.

You may want to be a little careful with what your friend tells you for reloading advice. That is a very heavy load and should be approached with extreme caution.

5grs of Promo vs 5grs of WST is too close to call, Promo is a little snappier recoil.

I agree. With a Saeco 66 185gr SWC I need minimum 4.8-ish grains to reliably cycle a Gov Model 1911, and 5.0 with a Lee 452 200 SWC. Haven't chrono'd either but I figure that a fly on the target could see 'em coming in plenty of time to dodge. Light loads for sure but a better starting point than 6 grains IMO.

Also an excellent 380 powder. Not listed, but 2.2 grains under the little Lee 95 grain round flat chronos right at 800 fps (786 low, 802 high over 12 rounds) and is a punchy critter gitter.

3.8-4.3 with the 200 makes a great target load

Yep .
My assumption is that it has a graphite type of retardant on it .

Yes, your color is right.

Great powder...I like it a lot.

I shoot a lot of 44 special and it works like a charm on the lighter loads.
