I found this documentary quite good. Of course anything about aviation is interesting to me.

I saw one land perhaps 10 years ago. Just amazing. Probably even better than a Mustang which is hard to imagine.

My great uncle flew one during the Battle of Britain, then when the USA entered the war he flew a P38 in the Pacific.

A P-51 would take preference for me but not by much. Although I sure like the brute force sound of a big Radial Engine.
The closest thing to a War Bird for me is this jewel. My office on weekends for 28 years. When we got it in, it was still in it's Vietnam OD Green and was rigged to carry 2 Five hundred pounders, one under each wing. It literally was a basket case, came in on a flatbed trailer in pieces. The ultimate jigsaw puzzle.

I love the P51, but I like the P47 more and would take a Corsair over both! :)
My neighbor had a Beechcraft Bonanza he would let me fly on occasion, leaving the OshKosh air show I had a P51 pull along side of us, waggle the wings and peel off right over us. Awesome.

 Outstanding post.Thanks.My three favorite WW2 fighter aircraft are the Spitfire,Mosquito and the P51.Not necessarily in that order. The only short coming of the Spitfire was its short range.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

:grin:Yep.An outstanding aircraft.Due to its altitude and airspeed(40k plus and 400 plus mph) would have made it the SR71 of its day.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.
