I want to rebarrel one of my Savage 116 .338 Win Mag rifles to .458 Win Mag. and was just wondering what experiences others have had with the E.R.SHAW barrel kits.

Thanks

I have never used the kits but have used their barrels. Most seem to shoot really well with minimal break in. I barreled a Model 70 for a friend in .280 A.I. and he has shot 3/8" groups at 100 yards. I have a 1917 Enfield in 35 W that is wonderfully accurate. My Dad has a 98 mauser in .458 Win that is a great cast bullet shooter.

E.R.Shaw had years of good reviews. Do they still?

I have been pleased with their barrels, have had barrels from better name companies but for my shooting needs the shaw was the best deal. I will use them again if I need a barrel.

I bought one of their kits from Midway in 358 win for a Stevens 200(Savage). I had my gunsmith change barrels and headspace it. My only issue is with the heavy profile. It shoots cast boolets GREAT! Flyer

I have 3 Adams & Bennet made by Shaw I believe and one Shaw kit in 223. I've been very pleased with all of them.
When I got the Shaw kit for my savage it wouldent shoot as good as the barrel I took off. A few rds down the barrel it started doing better. By a hundred rds it was shooting in the 1" range at 200 yds.

E R Shaw is the first place I look when hunting a new barrel. Mainly because they're in my price range and they shoot better than I can.

Waaaaayyyyyy back in 1986, I built a 6.5-308 ( caliber ring a bell for anyone?)bench rest gun using a ER Shaw 28" full bull barrel. Absolute tack driver with 120-140grn bullets! I will use them again without hesitation! Best recommendation I can make.

Have 3 Shaw barrels, had another that I sold, from 22lr to 7mm remember mag. All shoot very well, and I like the finish they use on there full profile bull barrels. The 2 rim fire barrels out shoot anything I've ever owned or shot, I'd buy another or 3 without hesitation.

I'd like to try a Shaw Savage barrel but I need a large shank and I've never seen a large shank advertised. I don't think they make them in large shank.

call them they are easy to talk with! I would be shocked if they would not make a barrel for your gun.

Had one then in a 35 Whelen that shot MOA after break in. And have one project on a Savage in 35 Whelen now.

I also would be surprised if they won't make you a barrel.

You can also contact them by e Mail on the website. They are old school and the phone is probably the best way to get ahold of them.

E-mail I got from them a couple weeks ago said a single barrel was about 4 months out.

I have had 3 Shaw barrels on different rifles. All were as good or better than most factory barrels. The recently-purchased lightweight .257 Roberts barrel on a Mauser action is eye popping after I bedded it with upward pressure at the forend tip. It did not like being free floated, however. It is also a bit picky about 100 grain bullets. Does not like Hornady, loves Nosler BT. It is also fairly short-throated. In a Mauser, a longer throat would be useful. In a short action, it wouldn't matter. Call and talk to them. They are very knowledgeable people.

I have had them on two different Siamese Mausers. Both shot well with the Shaw barrels. Not bench rest, but a 45-70 with stout loads is not a bench gun.

A few years ago, I placed an order with Shaw for a heavy magnum contour barrel in 6.5x55, threaded for a Savage action. Was told 12 to 15 weeks for delivery to me in Tx. Shaw billed my credit card when order taken. Over 17 weeks later, I called Shaw about when I could expect my barrel. Shaw rep I spoke with was same one that took my order.....promised to call me back....would check on it.
About 30 minutes later, had a call from Shaw and gent on phone worked in barrel production....commented he'd found my barrel, that it was in process of being crowned, that I'd receive it with-in a week, which I did.

How'd it shoot? I've no complaints about it. As someone has already written, not a bench rest accuracy barrel, but accurate enough for me. and my paper shooting. The last few months I've bought a couple of Shaw Savage action varmit contour barrels from the Gun Shack here in Tx. Gun Shack keeps a decent selection of various cartridge Shaw and McGowan stainless Savage replacement barrels. Shaws are $100 less than McGowans. With Tx tax and shipping....$233.68 to my door for Shaw and arrives about 4 days after phoning in order. Will buy Shaw again. Gent I shoot with, who is prone to swapping around/buying barrels on a regular basis for a new rifle build had used Gun Shack's Shaw barrels a couple of times and was quite happy with them.
