Looking for a side mount base for a 71 Prewar Deluxe with the screw hole spacing of
0"-9/16"-2 1/8"-2 11/16. Have a Weaver, spacing is different. Rifle was professionally drilled. Hoping someone out there is versed in the various side mount bases, and can point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply. Looked at the Williams offering a while back. The Williams Model SM71 uses three equally spaced holes. The 71 I have is drilled for four holes. The front and back pair are spaced 9/16" apart with a 1 9/16" space in the middle.

This can't be the only one out there with this hole pattern. Besides Weaver and Williams others had to make side mounts. Possibly Pachmayr, Echo or Kuharsky just to name a few.

Good luck, are perhaps some of the holes not for a scope mount but for the side adjustable sight?

All four of the holes are for the side mount base.

Probably Pachmayr

Found a picture of a Pachmayr side mount base the holes are staggered up and down. The holes on my rifle are in a straight line.

The G&H (Griffin & Howe) side mount can be had with a blank sideplate that is easily drilled to whatever config somebody needs.

The G&H side mount is a very good system. However at 400.00 for a blank base and rings, then add the 250.00 installation fee it's expensive. Was hoping someone would recognize the screw pattern and steer me to a more reasonably priced alternative.

What I think is that the side plate be drilled and left bigger for the lever screw which is on the left hand side of the 71 action and that that hole be there to allow disassembly by the removal on that screw so that the firing pin retaining pin can be driven out from right to left. I don't remember who made this particular side mount but the hole for the retaining pin removal they gave you 3-4 of these screws fifferent dimensions or threading because winchester over the years had changed the threads and the new screws were a little longer because the head of the screw sat on top of the mounting plate. I sure hope the last few sentenances made sense. Frank

Rick,

I had the same hole spacing on mine. I could not figure it out. I went with the weaver side mount # 3A . The first and last hole line up fine . The two middle are off a little. Since the mount is Aluminum one can file the center holes longer to fit. I have not done that yet, been shooting the way that it is. I got the weaver side detachable mounts high. Works great . Product 272671 and 429204 from Midway.

Rick: BenT's solution looks like the right answer. I looked and Midway has them and they call out for Win 71s. <$50 total.

If you have to mod the holes at all, just take a black Sharpie and color the aluminum and nobody will notice.
