Howdy,
I was wondering if anyone on here uses one of these, I traded for it and don't have it yet. It is set up up for 45lc, and I am going to set it up for 38 special, I have Dillons, so I don't know what Ii will need to change the setup, i am hopeing all I have to do is get the shell plate reset everything, and be off and running, so if any one could give me a little help I would be great full!

If you change over from 45 Colt to 38 Special and don't buy the entire carrier you will need a change over for small pistol primers. Also, you might want to buy another 3 hole toolhead so you wont have to swap dies.

the lee progressive press has a large primer and small primer shell plate. I found it easier to buy both and just swap out the shell carrier when changing calibers that use the same size primer. Does your dillon dies have the powder through the expander die capability? if not you might want to get a set of lee dies to reload with since the powder charge and expanding are done in the same step. Hope this helps

I have had one for several years. I have the plates, carriers, and turrets set up for .45ACP, 40 S&W, 9mm and .223. I sure wish I could get a plate for .32ACP! I agree with Boog on the need for powder-thru-expander dies. Having to remove the case from the press, charge it, and return it would certainly reduce production.

I really like mine. It's not something I would use for extreme precision ammo but I've never had consistency/accuracy problems I could detect in my handguns or Mini-14s.

Enjoy!

John

Beaverhunter2: Lee makes a plate for .32 ACP. It is Lee #90668. Mine is marked 7B on the plate itself. Lee catalog says $20.00 but IIRC I got it for about half that (ebay,Midway, some way???). Hope this helps.....Bill

I got it, it looks like new, I put it toghter, got everthing set and ready to run a batch, I like the cast feeder and the bullet feeded if it works like it should we shall see? It aint no Dillon, would trade it even for a Bare RL450 as long as it had the small primer system.
But if this thing will load 45C then it can't be to bad!

First reloading press I bought several decades ago was a Lee Pro1000 in .38 Special.

Still have it and it has loaded over 100,000 rounds for me to date--mainly .38 Special, 9mm and .380; the only three calibers I load on it.

About ten/twelve years ago, I picked up a Dillon 550B. Haven't liked it from day one. The Pro1000 spoiled me with case feeder and collator and auto-indexing. I don't need a factory crimp die for the calibers I load on that press, so three die stations is plenty good for me.

The Dillon gets boxed up, then I'll unbox it, set it up, tinker with it, cuss it mightily, box it back up and it'll sit for several years. Then I'll get to thinking about something on it, unbox it, set it up, cuss it profusely, box it back up where it'll sit for another few years.

Basically, I hate the damn thing. But what I'll probably end up doing is setting it up for ONE caliber, something like 7.62x39, and that'll be the only caliber I'll have to mess with .

Also have a basic, bare bones Lee Challenger single stage that I love--have around 5,000 rounds loaded on it. It does all my target ammo, plus all my long gun stuff. Zero problems with it.

I'm debating whether I should buy the Lee Classic Cast, or the Classic Turret. I still like single stage reloading, but on some of my calibers that I load on the single stage, like 45, the turret might be nice to speed things up just a bit.

Nonetheless, treat the Pro1000 right and you'll crank out plenty of ammo with little trouble.

I really like the pro-1000 I set them up by shell plate. 38spl and 357 mag get done on 1, 40sw 9mm and 9mm mak get done on another, and my third is for 45acp.

What is nice- if you watch you can find them used with dies for a steal! I don't think I paid more than 75 dollars shipped for 2 of them- and they came with dies.

Greg -
I have had several of those presses and they do a good job.

I happen to have a PDF of the original factory instructions which I'll be happy to send to you if I could get your personal email address. The instructions call out all the Lee part numbers for the shell holders and other parts you might need in the future, so it's nice to have.

Also currently have the die holders (what Lee calls "turrets") and some shell holders for sale on the "Swappin & Selling" board. As with the Dillon, having the dies already in the die holders cuts your caliber conversion time in half.

Hope this will help.

A good friend of mine who introduced me to reloading had a row of them on his bench: 9mm, 38 Spec, 357 mag, 44 special, 44 mag, 45ACP. said he didn't like to mess around with caliber changovers - swore by them! At the going price (circa 1985) it didn't represent a huge investment. I got one and it was OK for the money although I eventually moved to a Dillon. The only Lee item I've had and really didn't like was the "safety" powder measure (balance style) - I couldn't get myself to really trust it. Though once the Lee 1000 powder measure was set you were good to go.

20 years & over 50,000 rounds later, my first Lee 1000 is still going strong.

Thanks Guys,
i am all set up to make a test run, the dump seems to be real close on evry dump, I like the auto bullet feeder, I just wished it was 9mm or 38 special, it then would be a no brianer!

There's a video on You tube for the bullet feeder.

A lot of other videos for the Load Master apply to the Pro 1000.

I have 3 turrets: one for 41 mag(1st), 1 for 45 ACP, and 1 for .22-250.

After a lot of cussing and studying Jeff's posts I came to the following:

Keep it clean.
Keep it lubed.
Keep it loaded.

When all else fails, hand prime.

I added locking rings to my dies. Since I only have one powder measure, I have to remove two dies to change locking plates and use the measure.
I just screw them back to where I had them locked out and off I go. If I had the entender for the measure I could just unscrew the measure.
Mine works great.
Instead of the classic press, try the Lee hand press. Talk about control! I have loaded many thousands of 30-06 on mine, and still tickin.

Jeff

I have the 4-hole turret (and a LoadMaster), and I like it very much.
