I'm wondering if you guys have experimented with Alox 350 in hard lube recipes? I know that 50/50 alox and beeswax is fairly soft. Is it the beeswax that makes it soft or the alox?

alox is a liquid and beeswax is usually a solid

Five,
Now I am cornfused.
Again.
I have not seen liquid alox referenced before. I thought it was a solid alox like the Lyman shtuf.

All I've used for years has been Javelina Alox. Even cycled full auto thru my M/2 carbine leading is minimal......It DOES tend to generate a bit of "smoke" tho. In '06/.30 Carbine/.44/357/9mm and every other odd caliber I've loaded cast in I have NEVER experienced more than a light lead wash. Oh, yeah, an awful lot of the 9 was ran thru an ancient MP40.

Only problem I've got is that I bought a full case of the stuff nearly twenty years ago and I don't know if they're still in business..............anybody??

LLA- Lee Liquid Alox Liquid form not very similar to alox350 LLA dries, aloz350 does not.

Alox 350- A heavy grease almost like a thick vaseline like in consistancy

Beeswax is both the hardner and carrier for alox350

The more beeswax % the harder the lube

I find a mix of 75% BWax to 25% alox350 to be boutright and it still gets the job done without being all soft and squishy like 50/50

LA and 350 Alox's are different.

The LA is in a liquid form and the 350 used in 50/50 lube sticks is a stiff paste consistency.

The beeswax is the stiffener, more beeswax harder lube.

There are no doubt other hardening ingredients available, carnauba wax comes to mind, but some one like Felix is the man to get that detailed knowledge from, not me.

isn't alox used as a commercial lubricant?

It's getting clearer. You folks are awesome.
Someday I hope to learn half of what you folks have forgot.

there are two differnt aloxs one for tumble lube and the other for stick lube. In there bulk form there both a hard wax like material. Tumble lube is made by adding mineral spirits to alox to make it into a liquid. The alox you make stick lube out of seems just a tad softer then beeswax and the bulk alox i have for making tumble lube seems a tad harder. Ive made up lube with 25 percent tum. lube alox 25 percent stick alox and 50 percent beeswax and it comes up just a tad darker and harder then javalina and seems to work at least as well. I gave a few differnt mixs of both aloxs and beeswax and both aloxs and felix lube mixed together to Felix to test. I dont know if he ever got a chance to do it yet or not. the lube im using in my sizer right now is Felix lube but ive substituted a 1/3 of the beeswax with tumble lube type uncut alox. It seems to do real well too but i havent been shooting much and havent really tested it well. If you look at my post on lube trouble this is one of the lubes i was refering to. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=29723

Dogrunner,

I had used Javelina for many years with results similar to yours (and many rounds through a 9mm M16). Decided to try some of the modern lubes after joining this forum. Lar45's Carnauba Red is GREAT in everything from 9mm to .458 AR, and .470 Nitro Express ... and its CHEAP!

You might need a heater if you size in the cold weather, but it's worth it. Great stuff and little smoke!
