Just got my dies and wanted to load up some test loads, but can't find any load data for powders I have on hand!!

Anyone load Bullseye or BlueDot?

Also, I'm looking for molds. Was thinking maybe the Lee 311-93-1R, or more likely the Lyman 311359. Any suggestions on others?

Thanks!

<Edit>
Ok, well it's amazing what you can find when you search for the correct spelling on a subject!! Lots of good info on mold selection for the Blackhawk. Beagle's got some good posts on using Blue Dot, but nobody seems to be using Bullseye..

Check Alliant Powder for data on Blue Dot, it should work well in .30 Carbine.

I did for a while, used wc 820 and a 311316 solid and a 311359 hollow point. Too much noise and not much happens when the bullet gets there. Converted it to 500 Linebaugh, much better . My dog used to look at me when I shot the carbine like what the heck is that!!!! KB has a 32/20 and using the same load with the same bullet as the 30 carbine was MUCH louder. Go figure that one.

Scrounger,
Alliant's load data only specifies 2400..

Beagle,
EXCELLENT article! Thanks for the pointer I would never have found it.

Frank,
I'm just punching holes in paper with this thing. The noise is 1/2 the fun, until the headache kicks in.. I've been running some LC surplus M1 through it and can only get about 3 cylinderfulls before I need to put it down.

Using milsurp cases, various makes and RCBS mold 115 round nose w/gas check and 5 grains of Unique sized .309, lube NRA alox 50/50. Had to seat the boolits a little deeper (to front edge of front band to get them to seat on the case mouth in the cylinder....or else they protrude to the rear and tie up the cylinder). Recoil was a bit sharp due to the deeper seating. Accuracy at 50 yards was good off the bench, about 2 inches.
Have since come across an H&G -120 grain 4 cav #254-no gas check made for the .30 carb, but haven't had a chance to cast any of them up. Meanwhile have also read Beagle's work on using shortened 32-20 cases. Ordered 500 casings and am trimming them down. The use of a rimmed case + the shortened case would eliminate the seating on the mouth of the case probs and the associated tieups on the recoil plate.
I plan on trying IMR 4227 and seeing how that works. Its slower than Blue Dot or 2400 both of which ought to work fine, but I dunno about Bullseye which is kind of quick and might run somewhat higher in the pressure dept. In the 30CB the last thing one needs is more pressure so keep an eye out for the usual signs. Good shooting. LLS

Bruce Drake, one of our group who happens to be in Iraq now, posted this data 2 years ago:

I have in my Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook Blue Dot Loads for 44 Mag/444 Marlin/221 Rem Fireball/256 Winchester Magnum/9mm Luger/38 S&W/38 Super/380 Auto/38 Special/357 Magnum/41 Magnum/44 S&W Special/45 ACP/45 Auto Rim

Blue Dot is a bit too slow for most applications but I did find the following loads for your M1 Carbine:

30 Carbine w/123gr Lyman #311576
6.5gr-8.8gr Bluedot
997fps-1290fps

30 carbine w/120gr Lyman #311359
6.8-8.8gr BlueDot
1066-1339fps

30 carbine w/130gr Lyman 311410
6.3-8.2gr Blue Dot
971-1249fps

Hope this helps

Bruce

Scrounger, Looks like I forgot to thank you for that most excellent information.

I've been going over all the info for .30 carbine again due to a recent purchase. The Blackhawk has a built in feature of not eating much ammo, but the AMT Automag III we now own can be a real chow-hound!

When I loaded for a Blackhawk in 30 carbine I found it was real sensitive to case length, even in Lake City Ball I would find some that were long enough to cause cylinder drag.

I also loaded H-110 and was real happy with the power factor.
