I have been looking for load info for my new to me 300 Savage. The molds I have are the 311041, 311466, and the Lee 170. My 311041 drops at .315-.316, and I usually use it in my 303 Brit. The Lyman 4th addition doesn't list any of these Boolits for the 300. Does anyone use these? If so, what kinda results are you getting. Powder types? I would like to be able to use this rifle for a 150-200 (?) yard deer/black bear rifle. Am I dreaming? I don't know much about the 300 Savage. Most of the people I have talked to have only experience with J-words. What I want to do is possible with them, but I would rather do it with boolits. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well you might arrive at a safe and doable load by comparing something reasonably close.
For instance the 46th Edition lists a #311467 (178gr) with 26.0gr to 30.0gr of IMR3031
............................................and a #311291 (169gr) with 26.7gr to 35.0gr of IMR3031.
.....................The 4th Edition lists a #311672 (160gr) with 27.0gr to 37.0gr of IMR3031
............................................and a #311291 (170gr) with 26.5gr to 35.0gr of IMR3031.

Seeing the four differing loads have an average volume of 27.0gr to 30.gr of IMR3031, I'd consider trying that.

And there are several other powder choices.

(I tried to edit and line up the loads for easier reading)

Thanks for the info tsubaki. I'm out of 3031, but it is available. I'll check the other powder choices for some I might have on hand.

I use W748 for 300 Savage loads. I started w/ a jacketed load for the same weight bullet and went from there. I don't use the molds you listed. But the concept is the same.

35 grains of WW=748 and a Lyman 311-041 worked pretty well for me. However, 17.5 grains of 2400 worked very well with the 311-466. Size .310 or ,311 and load to an OAL 2.435 inches and you should be sitting pretty.

Just starting down the 300 Savage road myself; have a dandy 99 with a retro-looking Weaver 6X, plenty of cases, several medium rate (including 3031) powders and a couple of promising moulds. I have a 311041 and the NOE/RD 300 Savage mould. Did baseline testing with :groner: factory J-words last weekend.
This could be quite a ride.:D

I agree, this could be a lot of fun. There's something about the lines of a 99 that speak to me. Lots going on around here, and I haven't had the time to get started. I got my 2-7x32 old model Redfield on, but haven't had time to sight it in yet. Have fun with your rifle, and post your results please. I look forward to reading them.

A couple loads I've found to work well for me. Haven't worked on any loads using stick powders as of yet.

Nice groups. I have to try some 2400 with my 170's. If and when I finally get some time.
