Cleaning out my Grandfather's garage. Came across a box of concrete anchors that appear to be lead.
Does anyone know what metal they might be?

They are not pure. At least the ones my son brought home last month were not.

Threw them in the "other" lead pile to go in with the next batch of wheel weights.

really really old ones may be lead/lead alloy most the later ones are zinc ,scratch, cut,or acid test or all three perhaps may narrow it down for you

The older ones say "LEAD ANCHOR" right on the box.

the older ones I had were pure lead. as very soft and would bite into the concrete. the later would not and pull out .

I believe now some lead but mostly zinc!

Unfortunately there was no box. Some of the larger ones are pretty soft. Just hope most are not zinc.

Are they for Lag Screws or do they have a bolt thread in them them?

The ones I have checked that said lead on the box were not 100% lead. I have a number of different anchors in my service truck and none are usable lead.

I've used lots of anchors over the years. The ones that look like lead with threads in them that you drive into the hole and "upset" with a driver have been soft lead. The lag screw shields are not lead, probably zinc. The threaded studs that you place in the hole and tighten are not lead either.

If you have enough of these to amount to anything you can test them for zinc with a drop of acid. I used the stuff that you use in swimming pools.
