How deep do you guys seat this bullet? Being a Lovern design, I found
I had to seat it way deep.. The Swedes must not have a very long throat.
They shot well but I don't like to seat below the shoulder.

Swede militarys usually have a WAY long throat (to accommodate the mil round). Even with the rather blunt nose of that Loverin design, most folks can seat that NOE 134gr way out, and not lube the top couple of grooves. Sure you got all the way out to the point where the bullet started touching the leade?

Haven't tried it in my husky M38 yet, so maybe i'll be good there.

I may be the proud owner of a 6.5x55 soon and I was wondering; what kind of velocities are you guys getting from your military surplus rifles and the tight twists they come with shooting the various weights of cast lead bullets?

Mine will be a one in eight twist. I originally intended for my rifle to be strictly for conventional bullets but I may break down and start shooting cast lead out of it if I can get the accuracy I'd like out of it.

With Lyman 266673 (153 gr) in a m/96 I chrono'd at 1,500 fps. One hole group at 50 yds.

The exact twist rate of your rifle is 1:200mm.

Try a Lee sizing die. I suspect you are using a Lyman, and the nose is not getting sized down. Or, turn the bullet upside down to size the nose.

Many of the Swede rifles really like the 1600 FPS velocity range. Mine (m96) does - with Lyman 266673 and 5744, it can shoot under 2" groups at 100 pretty regularly.

#266469 gc , Allox , thru sized (made die myself) to .2675" w/19.6gr. 4895 @1525...under 2" at 100 yds in all Swedes and Norwegian Krag....

I use 266673 sized at .267" 13.5 g 2400 gives me about 1580 fps. Bullet hardness is 12BHN. At 200 yd this will hold the 10 ring on the SRC target but it will not quite hold the "X" ring. (Scoped rifle used for load development.).

I seat the bullet in a case that's not fully sized then chamber it slowly till the
bolt just closes then extract it. My OAL is 2.592 The bullet is sized .266 the
whole way...The nose on my 163 gr NOE mold measures .265 one thousandths
difference. Can't believe .001 would interfere that much to cause it not to chamber.

My next step would be covering a couple too-long dummy cartridges in sharpie marker and attempting to chamber them to find out where things were rubbing.

I once had one cartridge of 20 loads not chamber in a lever from a tiny lead smear on the shoulder. Ticked it off the case and it chambered fine, the thing was so thin I couldn't believe it. I size a little deeper now to allow for this kind of thing but I suppose it is possible the .001 does matter, given that you are seating it tight as-is.

Have you tried to chamber just your sized brass.

Yes, the brass is sized and the bullet gets shoved way down in the case....
It does the same thing on three different Swede rifles I have...I don't
get it.

any chance the throat has heavy lead build-up in it?

No....It also does it with the other two also.

If you coat the entire front (shoulder & forward) of a dummy round in permanent marker can you observe where the impact is occurring when you chamber it and remove the round, by seeing where the extracted bullet or case is shiny?

I feel your pain,I have a swede with an aftermarket barrel,it won't chamber NOE's 145grn unless I size the nose down to the lube grooves.I should have bought the Grendal mold but he doesn't have any left. Pat

I have two molds I use for my Husqvarna Model 38 Swede.
The Lyman 268645 is one I started with in the mid 90s.
I have had no problems in chambering cartridges using this mold in a variety of model 96s and my current 38.
Cartridge overall length is 3.07"!
When using the NOE 269145FN I need to reduce the overall cartridge length to 2.92" otherwise chambering is impossible.
I run all my cast bullets through a .264" sizing die.
