are they pretty strong? I got the 30dollar lee bench mounted press and broke it the first day crimping a cartridge. looking at the break made it clear it was pig iron. am getting a ch 206 and wondered about what they are made of cuz I heard some are aluminum, this one is not new but don't know how old it is. any input would be appreciated ,thankyou

If it is the vintage that you are after then by all means. If you want something that is vastly superior and a real bargin, try a Lee Classic Cast single stage. Any cast iron, compound linkage SS for that matter would be a better press.

if its anything like a Lyman spartan with non-compound linkage and a iron frame i doubt it will ever break, but it will be limited by its simple linkage design. these small older presses are great for smaller rifle and pistol calibers, but full length sizing of big long cartridges will get tiring.

also push-through boolit sizing dies will not be fun to use on it. if the price is low enough it will definitely work as a stop-gap solution 'till you can get a bigger compound linkage press. ive still got a Lyman Spar-T laying around here somewhere that i had dedicated to 30-30/32 Win. special..

ANYTHING is stronger than that press you broke!

Well except for the Chinese copy, Smart Loader.

As others have said, vintage presses are strong.

See other thread running about the CH 206.

i figure it ought to serve you better than the one you broke, but I wouldn't test it, its main weakness is the linkage. the handle resembles the thin handle lyman presses used way back in ancient times, so I wouldn't crank on it too hard. definitely not for case forming or boolit sizing!

it looks to be in good shape so thats a good bonus. if you treat it well it will probably outlast you.

ill have to see what the 202s were made out of and when because some CH presses used aluminum parts.

I believe the 101's were aluminum alloy and the 202's were cast iron or maybe steel. They both look identical to each other.

so the handle is weak, that would be an easy fix with some bar stock of good steel, instead of tube which I assume it is
