So far I have bought and tested three moulds: a vintage Lyman 311241 modded for dropping cast aswell GC boolits. The MP .308 hunting with a wide meplat G.C. mould and a Lee 309-170-F Gc. Planning was to use all of them on both my '94 short rifle 1995 with 20 barrel 12 twist and my Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker 22 barrel 12 twist. So far I have issue in loading boolits both with MP, sticking in the loading ramp of .308 Browning cause wide meplat and short coal, and with the Lyman that swage the collett of 30-30 brass.
Lee performed well on both rifles not only as feeding but also at the range (posted some data in another thread).
So question is: there is a similar shape boolits made from makers or brands (like Lyman or RCBS) still around?
Who has tested them in both levergin and bolt action with good results?

For a hunting bullet, Lyman's 311041 or NOE clone is tops.

A pound cast should show you the shape of the throat and what you need to do is match the bullets design to your throat. You may have acceptable accuracy in either with one bullet but probably not great accuracy.

Another vote for the Lyman 31141. I have only used it in my .308 and a friend's .308 and it works very well in both. The mould was originally designed for .30-30 though.

New designation is 311041. It is a 170 gr. flat point.

The mp312-159hp is all you need. If that's what you already have I'd tinker with it more.

I've been using it in lever, bolt, single, & semis without a hitch. It's a good design. Other than a heavier boolit I couldn't see why you'd need another.

Beagle that lee out to 311 to find more joy. I'm not familiar with the lyman but, it sounds like your covered pretty good already.

Although this was fired out of my 30-06, the 31141 Hp shoots just as well out of any 30-30 or 308 Win.

I shot this group at 50 yards , 5 shots, 17.0 grs. of 2400 with the 31141 HP , sized to .310".

the 041 works for me in only 2 situations.
it works in my 03A3 on top of 19 grs of 2400, and in one of my lever guns on top of 35grs of 4831.
other than that it gets it's tail kicked by a more appropriate boolit for the rifle every which way.
i would seek a bolt rifle boolit for your 308 and a lever gun booit for your 30-30.
the 041 might well work in your lever rifle [dunno]
but a more appropriate throat fitting boolit would be a better choice for your 308.

a 30 caliber boolit is not just a 30 caliber boolit that's why there is something like 50 lyman 30 cal mold numbers.
and about 5-6 rcbs ones.

You alla are right about having separate moulds for 30-30 and .308. But is all but easy to choose the right one without testing the boolist "before" buying the mould and this is wy I am asking Your's experience.
I have bought untill now (for .30 cal) the MP 308 wich was suppose mainly to work well in lever action and instead is perfectin my lever, the vintage Lyman 311241 that (althought a round nose boolits) seems having a good rep un lever: but shoots way better in my bold action Stalker. Only the cheapest, the Lee 309-170-F seems performing good fon both.

well the only way to know is to go with the ones with a reputation for the gun.

or do a pound cast of the 308's throat once you have that slug in your hand you can see [really see] what your boolit should look like for that rifle.
and then do one for the 30-30 and compare the measurements.

Paper plates and 1" squares are my bread and butter. Don't go to the range with out them ;)

Don't panic, I'm shooting and enjoying those nice targets you sent.

I notice you didn't contest the redneck statement! That's exceedingly fine shooting and photography.

Well, now that you mention it, my neck is more than a bit red.
