I was watching GUNS&AMMO on one of the outdoor channels last night and they were testing the new Ruger REDHAWK in 45 ACP. The one they showed had a four inch barrel. It was very impressive. I have shot my friends S&W 625 and I would love to own one but at my age it seems unlikely. If anyone has one of the new Rugers or even fired one I would like to hear about it.

It looks to be a 45acp/ 45 Colt.

I watched some videos this morning where guys were testing the Ruger Redhawk in 45ACP - 45 COLT. Everyone liked the pistol but shuddered at the price. $1029, YIKES!

Ruger make some fine weapons,I own 45 colt convertiable and a SR 621 both are a pleasure to shoot.

Ruger MSRP's are usually quite a bit above street price. It still isn't going to be a cheap gun, but I doubt many people will have to pay $1029.

I am still hoping to see someone who actually shelled out the money (let me guess, $850?) and how they like it. I don't need one but I wouldn't mind reading about it someone's opinion of it.

Expensive little toy - Jerry bought one - the moon clips from my S&W 25-2 won't work with it and his are a lot thinner (he already broke one) and they are hard to find as well as expensive it seems. Gun shot fine - just like a shorter version of my 44 mag Redhawk with a factory trigger.

I have shot my friend's S&W 625 and it was a pure pleasure. It has walnut grips designed by Jerry Miculek and they fit my small hands very well. I am sorry to here about the Ruger 45ACP clips being so flimsy. Seems strange since everyone said the gun was built like a tank. Something else just occurred to me. Since the 45ACP & the 45Colt cartridge use different diameter bullets, won't that pose a problem?

They don't use different Diameter Boolits - Long ago Pre WWII .45 Colts normally have .454 groove diameter barrels. Chamber throats were from .454 to around .457".
After WWII the barrel grove diameter was generally reduced to .451"-.452". But the some maker's didn't change the throats. They stayed at the .454/.457" range.

Post WW2 and accuracy complaints finally got a lot of makers changed over to the standardized .451/.452 barrels and cylinder throats. So unless you get an old S&W/Colt it will most likely have the correct .451/.452 measurements.

Just match your boolits to be throat size or a tad larger and you'll be fine.

I bought one last week for under $760 shipped, the hardest part was just finding one in stock. I've read mixed reviews about reliability but figured I'd take my chances, hopefully I'll get a good one. I also bought several packs of moon clips and am getting ready to buy loading and unloading tools from TK Custom so I don't bend or break them. And if that wasn't enough, I splurged on a couple of new molds.

Is Ranch Products making clips for the Ruger Redhawk yet? They usually have the best prices on clips.

Just match your boolits to be throat size or a tad larger and you'll be fine.

Makes no sense to go larger since all that does is increase pressure while the cylinder throat sizes down the boolit to throat diameter when it passes through the throat.

If you have a .451" boolit and it's tight going through the throats or doesn't want to go through the throats with just finger pressure, you will likely want to have the throats sized to suit whatever boolit diameter you want to use with it. Most would prefer to use .452" in both the ACP and the Colt loadings and most Rugers need the throats worked on before they are suited for a .452" to fit properly.

In my opinion, flimsy moon clips doomed the Taurus Tracker in .45 acp. I loved mine, but they were ridiculously light weight, and the revolver did not accept .45 AR. You might think a robust clip would be recognized as integral to active use of such revolvers.

I'm thinking the prices will be a bit more in line with this.

Kingstrider - where did you find the Ruger moon clips in stock?

I got them from Buds, stock number 0483. They are just under $10 for a pack of 3. I ordered a bunch so should be set for a long time.
