I've established the need for that diameter in my large throated 25-5. I have about 20 molds now - all Lee. I like them...I like aluminum - never wore one out. Anyway, that's what I want.

I am looking for a 0.454 mold in the 230+- range. Lee has none - all are 0.452. However, the DO have a 220 grain for the "Old Army", that's listed as a "conical bullet mold for black powder revolvers" - part no. 456-220-1R. To me is looks quite similar to their std. pistol mold 452-228-1R, that I've been pleased with for 30+ years.

Any reason why the "Black powder" mold won't be OK?

My Lee 452- 255gr mold throws 454 boolits. I PC them and run through a 454 sizer and my Rossi 92 love them. I wish it was a GC boolit so I could turn the heat up a bit more. That being said it does quite well @1600 or so fps. I have a 452 sizer for my Blackhawk. I shoot the Lee 452-200 gr. in it. That mold also throws 454 ? Both at a 12 to 14 BHN.

My 452 200 mold throws a 212gr. boolit. Not the 230 your looking for but it shoots well in a handgun. They are to short for the carbine.

Check out NOE moulds, Al is a sponsor member here. He has moulds in .454 diameter.

The Lee 456-220-1R is a tapered bullet. Bottom drive band on mine runs .452.

I have a large throated Uberti that gets along quite well with the 454190 boolit. This mold often drops .456" or bigger and I honed out a sizer to .456" which will let the boolits slide into the throats with a light drag fit. Running them through a .454" ought to have you fixed up good.

Just about every Colt SAA gun I've shot required a .454 bullet. In fact even my Marlin 1894 rifle needs a .454 a well. Thankfully their are a number of molds and custom mold makers who could supply what you need. If you like aluminum and Lee doesn't have what you need-- pay the few extra bucks and get a custom mold that you know will cast the .454 diameter in the bullet of your choice and weight. I have a number of molds laying around that I thought would work that ended up throwing undersized diameter bullets.

My RCBS 45-255-SWC mold throws a nice fat boolit with COWW. It has a nice big, flat meplat too.
