I've got a problem that has a lot to do with me getting forgetful in my old age. I form 45-70 brass into 8X58RD for my Swedish rolling block. Standard 45-70 brass is 2.1" long and makes 8X58RD shells that are a little short. But they still work fine.
But I have some 8X58RD brass that I know I formed from 45-70 brass some time ago but they're about 2.3" long. The headstamp says "R-P 45-70 Govt". Where did I get that extra long 45-70 brass from?
Does Remington sell untrimmed 45-70 brass?

I think Buffalo arms or someone like that used to stretch 45-70 out to 45-90.

You know, that rings a bell. At one point years ago I bought 40 rounds of loaded 8x58RD ammo that had been made from 45-70 brass. I bought it from what was called Ammo Depot. I bet they stretched their brass and I just still have a few pieces left that didn't split yet.

By the way, that ammo was loaded way too hot. I fired one shot and ended up pulling all the rest of the bullets and loading them to much lower levels.

Its not so bad when you find brass or ammo that you don't remember buying; when you start wondering "Just where did I get this gun?" it can get a bit disconcerting.
