Got my first animal with a real gun. I have gotten about 5 rabbits and a few squirrels with pellet guns but never a rifle. I have also shot doves with a shotgun. This was a pretty fat ground squirrel I shot with one of my .22's. Its a remington 512 sportsmaster that I scoped and mounted a bipod to. I shot it on a steep hill prone about 75 yards away. First shot hit and he was done. Im addicted now! I would love to go on a prairie dog hunt!

I had one of those rifles when I was young. It was very accurate, however it got away and I surely miss it now. Musta shot thousands of squirrels and gophers with it.

A Remington 512 was my first .22 rifle. Bought it in 1964 for a princely sum of $45. plus tax. Still have it, too! At one time, I could shoot tin cans with it at 100 yds, with open sights. Can't do that anymore.

It was my grandpas and is a great gun! I had some problems with it feeding so I replaced the mag tube spring and its great now. I mounted the scope on it so I could shoot farther. The barrel is pretty much brown and could use a reblue. The bluing job would probably cost what the gun is worth. Also the barrel has about 3 rings in it and at 20 yards I can hold 5 rounds into a shoot n c dot. I need to formally group it at 50.
